Watch Team USA’s artistic swimming squad perform Michael Jackson’s signature dance move underwater

PARIS, FRANCE: Team USA's artistic swimming squad impressed their fans by moonwalking upside down during their underwater routine at the Paris Olympics 2024.

During their Monday, August 5, performance, the Americans dazzled the audience with their graceful performance to Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’, per Daily Mail.

The team started their opening technical routine with the King of Pop’s music.



 

Team USA’s artistic swimming team does the moonwalk

As the artistic swimming team progressed with their performance, they inverted themselves while underwater, with their legs rising above the water level. 



 

Soon they did the moonwalk, Michael Jackson’s signature step, while floating underwater upside down. Naturally, their striking moves left spectators and fans astonished and awe-struck.

Michael Jackson's moonwalk is iconic. The King of Pop would swing his arms back and forth as the opposite leg slid backward. He also popped his head back and forth and hunched up his shoulders as he moonwalked.

On Tuesday, August 6, the team performed their free routine and on Wednesday, they will be performing an acrobatic routine - which has been introduced at the Paris Olympics. 

After Wednesday’s routine, medals will be handed over, per Reuters

Despite their complex moonwalking during the technical routine on Monday, Team USA was placed in fourth place.

However, the team’s Tuesday’s performance to the theme ‘I am the Water’ impressed judges and they climbed up to the second position with 69 points behind first-placed China. Spain is currently in the third position.

Fans were left in complete awe after the exemplary performance of USA's swimming team and they took to social media to express their excitement and admiration.

One of the fans declared in awe, "Tried but couldn’t moon walk standing normal. How come they do upside down and that too in water."



 

Someone else said, "I would of drowned 10 seconds in doing the moon walk upside down in water is insane 😂😂🤣."



 

"They moonwalked-- let's be honest, this performance was out of this world," said another fan.



 

Someone else noted, "MJ would have been so proud with that moonwalk."



 

Another fan enthralled by their performance, said, "I’m holding my breath with them like please come up for air!!"



 

"As if moonwalking in the air aint hard enough, i- 😭," observed someone else.



 

Another fan noted, "Damn, they're so smooth with their moves. they're really impressive 👏👏."



 

"Is there a medal higher than GOLD?!...cos they deserve that," declared a fan.



 

"I don't know how they judge performance but this is one of the amazing performance I have watched," said someone else.
