'We are not a couple': Martin Short denies dating Meryl Streep, says 'we are just very close friends'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Martin Short and Meryl Streep are not dating, despite the rumors that have been swirling around them.

The two actors, who co-starred in the third season of 'Only Murders in the Building', have been friends for a long time, but nothing more, it is now confirmed.

The dating rumors reached a peak when Martin Short and Meryl Streep attended the 2024 Golden Globe Awards together and sat next to each other.

They looked cozy and happy, sparking speculation that they were a new Hollywood power couple.

 

 However, Martin Short denied the rumors on the January 28 episode of Club Random with Bill Maher's podcast.

When Bill Maher called them a power couple, Martin Short said, “We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends.”

Bill Maher tried to persuade Martin Short to date Meryl Streep, saying “Well, you should because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple."

He cited examples of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who were once married and dominated the industry.

Martin Short and Meryl Streep have been friends for a long time, but they had never worked together until they joined the cast of 'Only Murders in the Building', a hit Hulu comedy series.

 

Meryl Streep played Loretta Durkin, a struggling actress who starred in a Broadway show with Martin Short’s character, Oliver Putnam.

They develop a romantic relationship in the series and are a full-fledged couple by the end of the season, as noted by Hollywoodlife.

Their chemistry and comedic timing were praised by critics and fans alike.

Martin Short and Meryl Streep’s personal lives

Martin Short and Meryl Streep have both been married before, but they are currently single. Meryl Streep was married to Don Gummer, a sculptor, for 40 years. They had four children together: Henry Wolfe, Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson.

 

PageSix reported in October 2023 that Meryl Streep and Don Gummer had secretly separated six years ago and had not been seen together since 2018. Meryl Streep had continued to wear her wedding ring until the news of their split became public.

Martin Short was married to Nancy Dolman, an actress and singer, for 30 years. They had three children together: Katherine Elizabeth Short, Oliver Patrick Short, and Henry Short.

 

Nancy Dolman died in 2010 at the age of 58 after battling ovarian cancer.
