Later that month, she posted a photo of her partner Ricky Latham carrying their baby daughter.

“Please welcome Poppy Rae Latham,” she wrote, revealing a nod to her 'Teletubbies' sun character in her daughter’s middle name.

At the age of nine months, Smith made her television debut in March 1997, the narration of which said, “Over the hills and far away, Teletubbies come to play.”

The original run of 'Teletubbies' ended in 2001, before a reboot arrived in 2014 featuring a different baby.

In October 2023, Smith revealed her pregnancy, leaving fans of the original show feeling a sense of nostalgia and the passage of time, as the artist they once watched as a baby was now expecting one of her own.

As per the Independent, several years ago, Smith revealed she was the 'Teletubbies' baby, writing on Facebook, “I’ve decided it’s time to tell everyone. I used to hide it but after a lot of encouragement from my friends at university, I’ve gained the confidence to come out with it."

She added, "I am the sun from Teletubbies. There have been quite a few people pretending to be the sun but only I could tell you the real story.”

She continued by saying that the day the producer of 'Teletubbies' had inquired about the existence of "any smiley babies" coincided with her being in the hospital for a check-up.

Smith said, "While recording my dad held a teddy bear behind the camera to get me to laugh, and rolled a toy racing car to get me to look down at the camera, and it obviously worked.”

Fans reacted to the news of Smith's baby

There were several fans, who were overwhelmed with the news. A social media user wrote on Facebook, "I feel old." Another user wrote the same, "I'm officially old."

Another user wrote, "How beautiful." A next user wrote, "My daughter loved "baby in sunshine," while another wrote, "Baby looks just like her sun baby except theblue eyes. Loved that baby face."
