PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President Donald Trump has suggested that he is open to meeting with the newly elected Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, at the White House, signalling a potential shift after their earlier clashes.

He suggested that the two could find a way to work together, framing the potential meeting as an effort to establish a functional relationship with the mayor.

Despite the previous critical comments and election-related remarks, Trump insinuated plans to meet Mamdani in Washington.

Trump told reporters, "The mayor of New York would like to meet with us, and we'll work something out," while preparing to board a flight in Florida.

"He would like to come to Washington and meet," Trump affirmed.

"We want to see everything work out well for New York," Trump concluded.

Trump's previous comments against Mamdani

In an interview with Fox News on November 5, Trump commented on Mamdani, saying that he "would like to see the new mayor do well," but that if Mamdani did not respect Washington, he "does not have a chance of succeeding."

On November 4, Trump said that he would restrict federal funds for New York City if Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani won the city's mayoral elections, and urged supporters to vote for former governor Andrew Cuomo.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that if Mamdani won the election it would be "highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required."

Trump also said that any New York City Jews who voted for Mamdani were stupid, as he allegedly dislikes Jews.

"Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!" Trump said in a Truth Social post.

After winning the mayoral race by defeating former Governor Cuomo in a historic and closely watched contest, Mamdani spoke directly to Trump during his victory speech and said, "To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us."

"So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up!" Mamdani added as he drew loud cheers from the audience.

In response, Trump called Mamdani’s speech “very angry,” saying it was directed at him and that Mamdani “should be nice” to him. “I thought it was a very angry speech—certainly angry toward me, and I think he should be nice to me. He’s off to a bad start,” Trump said.

When asked about the part where Mamdani told him to “turn up the volume”, “Hear me: to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us,” Trump called the remark “very dangerous.”
