LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In newly released footage, Wendy Williams, the former talk show host known for her candid commentary and larger-than-life persona, has been seen visibly distressed, crying, and banging on the glass at an assisted living facility.

The troubling video has sparked concern for the embattled star, who has been battling for the end of her guardianship arrangement in recent months.

Wendy Williams appears visibly upset in new footage

The footage, which surfaced on social media earlier on Thursday, February 13, shows Wendy Williams appearing upset and visibly agitated, calling out while speaking on the phone.

The scene unfolded at a facility where Williams has been living as part of a conservatorship that has been in place for nearly two years due to health issues that have reportedly affected her ability to manage her personal and financial affairs.

Williams, 60, was placed under the guardianship of Sabrina Morrissey in 2022. The arrangement, which was established after concerns over her mental health and financial wellbeing, has been fiercely contested by Williams herself.

In the new documentary 'TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy', released on Tubi, Williams, 60, opened up about the challenges of being under legal guardianship, a system she says has stripped her of her independence and placed her in an isolating facility.

She revealed that she has only gone outside twice in the past month, discussing the limiting impact of her guardianship.

Wendy Williams describes guardianship as 'prison'

In the documentary, filmed from a sidewalk below her facility with a camera focused on her window, Wendy Williams likened her living situation to a "prison." She revealed that the only times she was permitted outside in the past month were for dental appointments.

During a conversation with TMZ’s Harvey Levin, Williams expressed her frustration, saying, "I can call you, but you can't call me." She also mentioned being denied access to an iPad, a working phone, and visits from friends.

"I eat lunch and dinner in my bedroom because it's so f*****g depressing," she added, describing her surroundings as filled with elderly residents.

"The system has failed. The system has failed from top to bottom regarding this guardian and everybody involved with that," she concluded.

Wendy Williams seeks to dismiss guardianship

Wendy Williams has filed for the dismissal of her guardianship, aiming to regain control of her life. The move follows her public rejection of the 2024 diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which she called “disgusting” and “fake.”

"That's a very rare thing for anybody to have," Williams told The Breakfast Club on February 5, slamming the diagnosis as “disgusting” and “fake.” She further stated, "I’m not incapacitated. I am not a baby,” reiterating her belief that she does not have FTD, Page Six reported.

In a dramatic move, Williams also fired her court-appointed attorney, Linda Redlisky, on January 29, and hired a new legal team led by attorney Morrissey. Insiders reveal that Williams’ new lawyer plans to file an “Emergency Order to Show Cause” immediately following a medical evaluation scheduled for February 18.

Williams' new attorney plans to have her evaluated by a doctor chosen by her legal team on February 18. If the judge denies her request, sources say she plans to “demand” a trial by jury to decide her fate.

Growing public concern sparks 'Free Wendy' campaign

This recent footage adds to the growing public concern about her well-being and the conditions of the guardianship.

Supporters of Williams have launched an online campaign called “Free Wendy” to rally for the end of her guardianship. The movement has gained traction across social media, with fans and advocates sharing messages of support and calling for her freedom.

A user wrote, "Free Wendy! Why on earth is she imprisoned like that? That is definitely not the way to help a person's brain. She needs regular stimulation. She needs to live her life with minimal assistance. I'm pretty sure wendy williams is more than capable of expressing what she needs."

Another added, "Free Wendy Williams, she sounds sane to me.God Bless Wendy Williams!"

A third commentator remarked, "This is heartbreaking @WendyWilliamsOF Wendy does not deserve this. Someone please help free her. "

"Free Wendy!!! This is so sad," said one.

A person stated, "She needs to be set free for the sake of renewing the wendy show again. now THAT’LL be pop culture regression."

Another added, "Free Wendy! This is an outrageous violation of her rights!"
