Wendy Williams slipping 'further into dementia' as concerns raised over care under legal guardianship
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Wendy Williams is slipping 'further into dementia' while her loved ones, who haven't been able to contact her, are frantically worried about the quality of her care, a new report by Radar Online claims.
The outlet revealed that those close to Williams have been "kept in the dark" after the former talk show host was placed under a court-ordered legal guardianship in May 2022.
Report claims Wendy Williams slipping 'further into dementia'
The report states that she'd been suffering from medical issues, including Graves' disease, lymphedema, and alcohol abuse.
Moreover, in 2023, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, the report added. The former radio DJ reportedly allowed a crew the same year to film her attempt to make a comeback after the cancellation of her talk show.
She appeared disoriented, forgetful and erratic in the docuseries 'Where Is Wendy Williams' and led to her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, filing a lawsuit alleging Wendy did not have the capacity to consent to the series and A&E countersued.
Interestingly, according to a new court filing made by Morrissey, Wendy "has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated."
An insider revealed to Radar Online that her friends and family are being kept in the dark. The outlet further noted that Wendy is also facing financial woes.
Moreover, as of February 2023, her net worth had come down from $40 million in 2020 to just $500,000. An insider said, "She can't possibly be getting the same good care that Bruce Willis is when she's flat broke."
The source added, "Wendy is reportedly living in a mystery facility with limited access to the outside world – and has only been spotted in public once, at a wellness store in New Jersey in August with her son, Kevin Hunter Jr."
Family insider claims Wendy Williams is 'more clear now than she’s ever been'
As the world speculates about Wendy Williams' condition, people close to her say she’s definitely on the upswing. A family insider told the Daily Mail, "She is more clear now than she’s ever been throughout the guardianship, which is a problem for some."
The claims were made after Morrissey claimed in legal filings that Wendy "has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated" due to her battle with frontotemporal dementia.
Speaking to the Daily Mail in October, Wendy said, "I am doing really good. The documentary sucked. I understand that it is up for an award now. Everything is going really well."
Wendy Williams' publicist vents disappointment over documentary
Wendy Williams' longtime publicist Shawn Zanotti was really disappointment with the documentary.
She told NBC News, "I felt that [Wendy] was being exploited. She thought we were focusing on the comeback of her career… She would be mortified. There’s no way you can convince me that she would be OK with looking and seeing herself in that way."
She also shared her frustrations with People and admitted that while she initially encouraged Wendy to participate, she felt deceived by the final product.
She told the outlet, "I would never let Wendy put her name and brand on the line like that ever. She’s an icon. It’s not the story we signed up for, and I feel lied to. It’s so difficult for me to even watch."
