'Just getting started': Robert Downey Jr set to embark on new projects with wife Susan after Oscar win

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following his recent Oscar victory for his remarkable role in 'Oppenheimer', Robert Downey Jr is not showing any signs of taking a break.

The production company 'Team Downey', which he runs with his wife Susan Levin Downey, is set to release several new projects.

These include the Netflix series 'Sweet Tooth'; Amazon MGM Studios' 'Play Dirty' and HBO Max's 'The Sympathizer'.

“I got a couple other tricks up my sleeve,” declared the 58-year-old actor at the Governor’s Ball, as reported by People. 

“We’re just getting started,” Susan, the 50-year-old producer, excitedly stated.

The couple frequently discusses their future plans, which include a variety of collaborative endeavors.

"There's so many more things we want to do together and achieve together and play together, create together," Susan added.

Robert Downey Jr described their collaborative work as an “inside job,” expressing confidence in their future ambitions.

“I believe that in our own way we have mountains yet to climb," he added. 

Regarding 'Sherlock Holmes 3', Susan mentioned on the UnWrapped podcast that the project is ready and waiting for the perfect timing and team.

"Yes, it's in the hopper. We're going to do it when it's right with the right people. But it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert," she added.

Robert Downey Jr's Oscar acceptance speech

In his Oscar acceptance speech, Downey humorously thanked his “veterinarian, I mean wife,” acknowledging her pivotal role in his recovery and success.

"She found me a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That's why I'm here," he said. 

The couple, who met during the filming of 'Gothika', are parents to two children, 12-year-old son Exton and nine-year-old daughter Avri, and have been instrumental in each other’s lives. 

In 2015, the ex-convict, who had been rehabilitated twice, was granted a full and unconditional pardon by the California Governor for his previous drug convictions.

Downey's journey to sobriety has been mirrored by his eldest son, Indio Falconer Downey, 30, who also celebrated a significant milestone of 18 months of sobriety last November.

Downey shares Falconer with Deborah Falconer whom he was married for 12 years which ended in 2004. 

Robert Downey Jr's upcoming role in ‘The Sympathizer’

Robert Downey Jr is set to take on a challenging new role, playing four distinct characters in the upcoming series 'The Sympathizer' which is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max.

He shared his excitement about the project with People, indicating that the characters he portrays are a direct reflection of various facets of the American establishment.

"It wasn't particularly subtle, it wasn't meant to be, but I'm already proud of what I've seen,” Downey said. 

The series, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, boasts a talented cast including Hoa Xuande, Sandra Oh, and others, promising a compelling narrative set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and its aftermath, as per Daily Mail.
