'What a legend': Jamie Dornan playfully recounts Warren Beatty's brush with phishing scam
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jamie Dornan couldn't resist poking fun at ‘Rules Don’t Apply’ star Warren Beatty, 86 after he fell victim to a phishing email.
Appearing on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, the ‘Fifty Shades’ actor shared an incident from the past when the octogenarian actor was on the verge of getting duped by cyber criminals who hacked their fellow actor Eddie Redmayne’s email.
Jamie Dornan shares the story of them receiving phishing emails
Jamie Dornan recently made an appearance on a podcast where he discussed his 2022 film 'The Tourist.'
During the conversation, Dornan shared about an incident when his longtime friend and fellow actor Eddie Redmayne’s email got hacked, per Entertainment Weekly.
He went on to tell the host Josh Horowitz about how Redmayne’s email got hacked and each of his contacts received a phishing email.
He shared, "Eddie [Redmayne] got scammed on his email," before adding, "We all got emails saying, like, 'Guys, I'm up against it here. I need some cash.'"
While many people can recognize such scam emails, Dornan mentioned that there was a particular individual in Redmayne's contacts who nearly fell victim to it.
Referring to the fake distress call, Dornan said, "Warren Beatty was like, 'What can I do?'" before adding, "I think I'm ok to tell this."
He continued, "It got sent to all of [Redmayne's] contacts. I don't think we were all on there together.”
He also shared his response, “I wasn't like, 'Yeah, Warren, you go, you go first, I'll follow.'”
He continued, “We all just got individual emails saying, 'Guys, I really need you to wire me some cash.'"
Despite cracking a joke at Beatty’s expense, ‘The Fall’ actor credited the veteran star for being a person willing to help someone in need.
"Fair credit, Warren Beatty was like, 'Whatever you need.' What a legend," commented Dornan.
Though the actor did not tell when the phishing scam happened, he joked the scam happened “just before [Beatty] read the wrong name at the Academy Awards.”
“So it all sort of makes sense,” concluded Dornan.
Beatty’s famous Oscar gaffe took place during the 2017 Academy Awards when he took the stage to present Best Picture at the Academy Awards along with his ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ co-star, Faye Dunaway.
They were, however, given the wrong envelope and they mistakenly announced ‘La La Land’ as the winner when it was supposed to be 'Moonlight.'
Other Hollywood stars including Andy Cohen got scammed
Several stars, including Bravo host Andy Cohen, lost money in an elaborate financial scam, not just Beatty who fell prey to the email scam.
After losing his debit card, Cohen shared that scam artists posing as bank employees contacted him, convincing him that he was speaking with bank executives, and ultimately robbed money from his account, per Today.
