Internet slams Mercedes Schlapp as she says Joe Biden's Jan 5 speech 'sounded just like Fidel Castro'
WASHINGTON, DC: In a scathing critique, Mercedes Schlapp, the former White House Director of Strategic Communications, condemned President Joe Biden's inaugural campaign speech for his re-election bid, drawing a comparison to the former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
In a conversation with Newsmax, the former Trump aide whose father escaped a Cuban prison under Castro's administration blasted Biden's accusations against the former President.
"I am the daughter of a Cuban political prisoner who fought for freedom, who fought against authoritarian and dictators," Schlapp stated.
"He [Biden] sounds just like Fidel Castro did. Fidel Castro would target the enemies of his government and try to take them down."

Schlapp also shared the interview clip on X (formerly Twitter).
A significant part of Biden's January 5 speech in Pennsylvania, given on the eve of the third anniversary of the January 6 Capitol insurrection, was about Donald Trump instigating the attack to overturn the 2020 election results.
Slamming his predecessor's anti-immigrant rhetorics echoing the Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler, the incumbent stated, "He [Trump] calls those who oppose him vermin. He talks about the blood of America as being poisoned, echoing the same exact language used in Nazi Germany," Biden blasted.
Mercedes Schlapp argues Joe Biden should be ashamed of himself
Schlapp claimed that, like Castro, Biden was also attempting to bring down Trump.
Calling out the President for comparing the GOP frontrunner to Hitler, the former White House employee added, "He should be ashamed of himself. No American, no American should be called a Nazi or be called an enemy of the state."
Schlapp further stated she had spent her whole life "defending the freedom in America."
Contradicting her arguments, Trump had resembled Hitler's anti-immigrant language on multiple occasions. Despite claiming he does not know anything about Hitler, reports suggested that he used to keep the dictator's speeches by his bedside.
Trump, often labeled a 'threat to democracy' by the Democrats as well as his former aides, faced backlash for praising authoritarian rulers like Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a potential rematch between Biden and Trump, the incumbent's campaign is emphasizing the leading Republican contender's own statements and highlighting his ongoing legal challenges in his attempt to overturn the 2020 elections.
Internet turns furious
Internet slammed Schlapp's criticism of Biden's speech against the former President, who once explicitly stated his wish to be a 'dictator for a day' if elected in 2024.
One user asked, "What is wrong with her?"
Another user wrote, "As a Cuban, I find this pathetic."
"Who is she? Has she listened to herself?" read a third reaction. A fourth user noted, "Some people sell their souls... she lies quite glibly."
