WASHINGTON, DC: The White House sparked quite a backlash after penning a Valentine's Day message to House Speaker Mike Johnson following the recent breakdown of the bipartisan border security bill.

The bill, which aimed to address critical concerns at the US-Mexico border while also allocating aid packages for Ukraine and Israel amidst their conflicts with Russia and Hamas, faced significant opposition in the GOP-led House.

Despite its potential to enact substantial reform, conservative hardliners deemed it inadequate in addressing illegal immigration, leading to its demise in the Senate.

In a cheeky Valentine's Day gesture, the White House took to social media, delivering a poetic jab at Speaker Johnson, highlighting the bill's failure with the verse: "Roses are red, Violets are blue, The border deal was crushed, because of you."

They captioned the post saying, "Happy Valentine's Day, Speaker Johnson!"



 

Social Media Backlash

The post elicited a flurry of responses, with some criticizing the administration's lighthearted approach to a serious issue, while others lambasted Biden's border policies.

"WHO IS RUNNING THIS ACCOUNT?" one posted on X.

"Joking about the border crisis that Joe Biden created is not funny. Shame on the White House. Biden has the ability right now to secure the border by using executive order. He has all the tools he needs. He just doesn’t have the will to act. Shame on Biden," another fumed.

"Actually it was your 60 open border executive actions that crushed our border. Just in 2024, we are at nearly a million illegals. Do the math! And they are giving the illegals more money than a retired worker on social security," a comment read.

"Roses are Red Violets are blue The border has been open for 3 years Because of communists like you," someone else responded.

"Yes indeed Speaker Johnson ended remain in Mexico, restarted catch & release, halted the wall building, stopped all deportations, etc Yes, all Speaker Johnson's fault," another chimed in sarcastically.

Speculation has been rife about the influence of former President Trump on the border bill's fate, with claims suggesting Speaker Johnson's allegiance to Trump played a role in derailing the legislation—a notion vehemently denied by Johnson himself.

"First, the most important job for the federal government is to protect its citizens, we are not doing that under President Biden. I have talked to former president Trump about this issue at length and he understands that, he understands we have a responsibility to do here," Johnson explained.



 

As the debate unfolds, immigration emerges as a pivotal issue in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, with polls indicating public skepticism towards Biden's handling of the crisis. Against this backdrop, Biden's recent overtures towards tougher border policies mark a notable shift in strategy, signaling a potential departure from his previous stance.

In a bid to salvage elements of the failed bill, Biden urged Speaker Johnson to advance a bipartisan national security measure passed by the Senate, albeit without the border provisions.

The Senate's subsequent passage of a separate $95 billion national security package further underscored the urgency for legislative action, prompting Biden to implore swift consideration in the House.

"There’s no question that if the Senate bill was put on the floor in the House of Representatives, it would pass," the president said, as quoted by Fox News.
