In its debut post on Bluesky, the White House showcased a mix of provocative content from President Donald Trump’s second term.
The 52-second montage video highlighted the administration’s executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico, featuring a doctored image of Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and a fake moustache. In the video, Trump can be heard saying, "My fellow Americans, our movement is far from over; in fact, our fight has only just begun."
It also included a montage of photos and videos from other major moments during Trump’s return to office. The video featured clips from Trump’s rally speeches, dramatic visuals of the border wall, and a mix of viral memes, including the 'Daddy Home' catchphrase and a sun-faced version of Trump. Throughout the montage, a narrator emphasized themes of national unity and America’s comeback.
"What's up, Bluesky?" the White House wrote alongside the video. "We thought you might’ve missed some of our greatest hits, so we put this together for you. Can’t wait to spend more quality time together!"
The post marked a clear attempt to engage and provoke audiences on a platform that has attracted many disillusioned X users. As of this writing, the post has received over 1,500 likes, 331 quotes, 76 saves, and has been reposted by 818 users.
Which other government entities joined Bluesky alongside the White House?
After Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, a wave of frustrated users migrated to Bluesky, helping the platform experience a spike in new accounts late last year.
While still smaller than established platforms like X, Bluesky has carved out a niche among users seeking a different online atmosphere.
Several other government entities joined the platform on Friday, October 17, as well. The Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security both launched Bluesky accounts, while Vice President JD Vance had already joined back in June.

The Department of Homeland Security, using the handle @homelandgov.bsky.social, shared its first post on October 18. The message read, “Hello, Patriots! DHS is here to appeal to your patriotic spirit and ask that you lend us a hand in stopping the Democrats’ government shutdown. To all the Americans on Bluesky, your homeland needs all of us to work together.”
The Department of War also joined Bluesky, announcing its presence by emphasizing that the "most powerful military in the world" had arrived on the platform. In an all-caps message, the department posted: “The most powerful military in the world is now on Bluesky.”

It continued by directly addressing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, “Hey @schumer.senate.gov — maybe it’s time you thank President Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for making sure every military kid still has health care during your Democrat shutdown.”
The Department of State also became one of the Trump administration’s agencies to establish a presence on Bluesky. In its first post, it wrote: “Hello, Bluesky! We heard this is a great place to have an open and honest dialogue, so we’re here to talk about how the Democrat shutdown is undermining our country on the world stage.”
Despite the move, President Trump continues to favor Truth Social as his main social media outlet. He remains the largest shareholder in Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind the platform.
White House notifies X users about Bluesky's debut post
After launching its Bluesky account, the White House also notified its 2.8 million followers on X about the debut post. "We realized everyone over at Bluesky probably wasn't seeing our content. So we decided to fix that. Here are some of our greatest hits all in one place. Enjoy."
The message included the same 52-second montage video shared on Bluesky, a clip that quickly racked up over 3.2 million views on X within just a few hours. It also drew more than 60,000 likes and 2,500 comments, underscoring the post’s viral momentum.
