Gina Chiles once deferred her prison sentencing to cheer for her daughter in the Tokyo Olympics
In 2021, it was revealed that Gina successfully petitioned to defer her prison sentence by one month to watch her daughter compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Jordan, who won an Olympic silver at the Tokyo Summer Games in 2021, received support from her mother in person.
In 2021, Gina pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison, per People.
According to the outlet, Gina had previously confessed to embezzling from clients and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on personal expenses through her commercial property management business, Inspire Vision Property Management LLC.
In mid-July of that year, she requested the court to permit her to self-surrender on August 26, after Jordan's Olympic run concluded on August 8. This request was made to provide the Olympian with additional time to receive her mother's emotional support and guidance during such a monumental period in her young life.
After the prosecution accepted her motion, she surrendered herself to the authorities in late August and started her prison sentence at Fort Worth, Texas, on August 26, 2021.
Per Life & Style, two months later, she was transferred to a halfway house managed by the San Antonio Residential Reentry Management Office. On April 18, 2022, she was released four months ahead of her originally scheduled release date.
The mother of five was also required to pay $1,218,877.78 in restitution and was assigned three years of supervised release following the completion of her prison sentence.
Talking about her experience of watching her daughter competing, Gina opened up to 'Today’s Hoda Kotb in July 2021. She shared, "Every moment that I watch Jordan is the most amazing moment as a mom," before adding, "And so I just am looking at it as not bittersweet, but just sweet, period, that she's here."
Her daughter too reciprocated the same love for her mother, as she previously gushed about her mother in an interview with NBC Sports in June 2021.
The Olympian shared, “She’s literally the life of me. I love her to death,” and continued, “She’s my best friend. I can’t thank her enough for everything that she’s done for me and the love and support that she’s given is 1,000 percent out of this world."
Jordan Chiles was signed up for gymnastics classes by her father
Although Jordan’s greatest supporter is her mother, she has achieved success in gymnastics with significant support from her father as well.
In 2021, Gina told The New York Times that it was Jordan’s father, Timothy, who enrolled her in gymnastics classes after spending a week alone with the aspiring athlete.
Jordan also shared on the USA Gymnastics website, “My parents couldn't keep me from cartwheeling down any open space or walking on my hands instead of my feet,” and added, “People kept asking if I was in gymnastics. I had a lot of energy, so they put me in gymnastics.”
Gina Chiles wrote a children’s book
Gina's deep love for her daughter inspired her to write a children’s book in 2018. Titled 'Dream Big Little Chick,' the book was published in 2020.
Drawing from Jordan's gymnastics journey, Gina aimed to inspire others through the story.
She once told NBC Sports, as reported by People, “It was inspired by Jordan, but I was really thinking of all the little kids with their own dreams, especially when things didn’t always seem possible.”
