LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Whoopi Goldberg fired back at JD Vance after he suggested that Democrats should "tone down" their rhetoric against Donald Trump, following a second assassination attempt on the former president on Sunday, September 15.

During a campaign event on September 16, Vance had pointed fingers at Democrats for recent violent incidents.

Whoopi Goldberg challenges JD Vance’s claims against Democrats

Whoopi Goldberg started off the Tuesday, September 17, episode of 'The View' saying, "Now we’re gonna talk about some idiotic stuff."

"The motive behind the gunman arrested in an apparent assassination attempt against the former president is still under investigation, but it hasn’t stopped the Republican candidate and his running mate from putting the blame on President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

Goldberg expressed disbelief at JD Vance's accusations, calling it "insanity" to hold Democrats accountable, given Donald Trump's own history of incendiary speech.

"I mean, he [Trump] has been inciting violence since 2016," she stated, referencing Trump’s past comments that encouraged his supporters to act aggressively.

She added, "Telling them to beat up hecklers, threatening to shoot looters and migrants."

Goldberg contrasted Trump's behavior with that of former presidents, saying, "I don’t remember Bill Clinton [doing that] when [the White House] was sprayed by 29 shots. I don’t remember [Barack] Obama blaming opponents when his White House was shot up in 2011."

She further challenged Vance to "really take a look in a mirror" and reflect on his claims.

"One of the reasons that everybody has survived is because the Secret Service has been doing their job," she remarked.

"Let’s start with that. So, quit blaming folks."

JD Vance highlights contrast in rhetoric of Democrats and Republicans

JD Vance noted the contrast between the political rhetoric of Democrats and Republicans at the campaign event on Monday, September 16.

He stated that "no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump".

He reiterated these points at a subsequent rally in Michigan, where he blamed President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris for the death of an individual during the rally at Butler, Pennsylvania in July when 20-year-old shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at Trump.

The former president was injured after a bullet grazed his ear but one rallygoer died.

"Don’t lecture Donald Trump about softening his rhetoric after two people tried to kill him — it’s ridiculous!" Vance exclaimed.

"Tell Kamala Harris, tell Joe Biden, tell all of her surrogates who are saying things like ‘Donald Trump needs to be eliminated,’ they need to cut that crap out or they’re going to get somebody hurt. In fact, they already did get somebody hurt. Corey Comperatore lost his life."

This incident follows Trump’s similar assertions that Harris and Biden are directly responsible for the recent attempts on his life.

He claimed, "Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out."
