NYC, NEW YORK: During a recent episode of ABC’s 'The View', the hosts delved into the vice presidential debate and its implications, particularly focusing on the contentious topic of Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

The discussion arose when host Sunny Hostin was prompted to provide a legal note, a common practice on the show. However, Whoopi Goldberg questioned the necessity of this procedure.

'The View's legal note highlights Donald Trump's 2020 election result claims

The legal note specifically addressed Donald Trump’s assertions regarding the 2020 election, a matter that remains undisputed.

This topic was brought up during the show’s 'Hot Topics' segment, particularly in response to Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), who was criticized for his refusal to acknowledge the facts surrounding Trump’s 2020 electoral loss. Instead, Vance inaccurately claimed that Trump “peacefully gave over power” after the election.

Hostin had previously argued that Vance’s election denial and his debate responses rendered him “unfit” to serve as vice president. As the segment came to a close, executive producer Brian Teta prompted Hostin to present the legal note, “Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing related to the 2020 election.”

As the outro music began to play, Whoopi Goldberg expressed her confusion over the need for such legal disclaimers. “I find that so interesting. I mean, this is what, we have to do these legal notes each time. To say what has been proven to be a fact, we have to deny it on their behalf? Is that right?” she asked.

In response, Teta clarified, “We have to state the denials that they’ve stated.”

Goldberg remained inquisitive, saying, “One day you’ll tell me why,” to which Teta responded, “I think I’ve told you a couple of times, but who are you talking about here?”

Goldberg reiterated her concern, noting, “No, no, not this. Because I find it odd when everybody has seen it and they know that it’s not necessarily the truth.” Teta concluded, explaining, “We’re showing what they’ve said on the record as their statement.”

The conversation then shifted to the impact of political endorsements within the entertainment industry. Goldberg emphasized the mixed political landscape of Hollywood, countering the perception that it is uniformly liberal. “We’re a mixed bunch,” she stated, addressing claims that celebrity endorsements could jeopardize careers.

Co-host Joy Behar noted that celebrities often face backlash for their political views, echoing sentiments from fellow panelists who debated the responsibilities of public figures in political discourse.
