LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a surprising turn of events on 'The View', Whoopi Goldberg, at 68, left her co-hosts stunned by unveiling details about one of her recent relationships, where she dated a man who was 40 years her senior.
The candid revelation came during a heated discussion about age differences in relationships, sparked by the controversy surrounding Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine's new film, 'The Idea of You'.

Whoopi Goldberg breaks down age barriers
According to Daily Mail, Goldberg, renowned for her role in 'Sister Act', expressed her nonchalant attitude towards age when it comes to matters of the heart.
The discussion arose in response to the real-life age gap between Anne Hathaway, 41, and Nicholas Galitzine, 29.
Sara Haines, 46, chimed in, sharing her own experience of dating someone 18 years her senior, stating, "12 [years] is not that bad. I dated a guy that was 18 years older than me. 11 seems more acceptable to my parents."

Joy Behar, 81, revealed her preference for younger partners, emphasizing the seven-year age gap with her husband: "[Steve] drives at night, he does the heavy lifting, he's sharp as a tack - when I get old and decrepit, he'll wheel me around. I don't want them old."
When the question turned to Goldberg, the versatile entertainer disclosed that she has dated both younger and older men, emphasizing that age is not the determining factor in her romantic pursuits.

In response to concerns about a significant age gap, she stated, "Because I'm not, you know... your age is not what's going to get me into your arms. It's not your age that I'm concerned about. Unless you're under 18, in which case I can't, I can't at all but, you know."
Navigating the challenges
Joy Behar mused on the potential challenges of a big age gap, saying, "Because when you're like 20 and 40 is good and even 40 and 60, but now 60 and 80 gets a little..." before Goldberg cut in, revealing, "Actually, I just have to say this to you, one of the last relationships I had, he was 40 years older than me."
"40? Is he still alive?" Joy exclaimed, as Goldberg nodded. Despite the surprising revelation, Goldberg did not share specific details about her older beau or when the relationship occurred.
While Goldberg has been in the spotlight with high-profile relationships, she has been through three marriages. Her first marriage to Alvin Martin lasted from 1973 to 1979, followed by a brief marriage to cinematographer David Claessen in 1986, and her final marriage to union organizer Lyle Trachtenberg ending in 1995.
Throughout the years, Goldberg has been linked to notable figures such as Timothy Dalton, Ted Danson, and Frank Langella.
Defying conventions
Despite being in the public eye with high-profile relationships, Goldberg has been firm about her preference for single life in recent years, expressing that she doesn't wish to live with anybody.
In 2023, during an episode of 'The View', she candidly shared her perspective on marriage, acknowledging her joyful demeanor after each divorce: "I was dancing and prancing."
Goldberg has also addressed rumors surrounding her sexuality, unequivocally stating that she is not a lesbian.
In a 2023 interview with Raven-Symone on 'The Best Podcast Ever', she shut down speculations about her sexual orientation, highlighting her longstanding friendships with lesbians and her portrayal of lesbian characters on film.
