NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: Travis Kelce might be known for his dominance on the field but some fans think his biggest fumble of Super Bowl week had nothing to do with football.
Instead, it involved a bowl of gumbo, a beloved New Orleans staple.
I know Travis Kelce, this ignorant rockhead, didn’t come to New Orleans and call gumbo a “brown soup.”

Some football fans are convinced that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce sealed his team’s fate not with a fumble or a missed play, but by disrespecting New Orleans’ beloved cuisine.
"Kelce cursed the team talking bout he not a fan of gumbo. Voodoo going crazy in the dome rn," a user wrote on social media.

Travis Kelce reveals he's 'not a gumbo guy' days before Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end had a rough night at Caesars Superdome as his team fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, losing 40-22 in their third straight NFL Championship appearance. While fans quickly analyzed plays and missed opportunities, a strange theory emerged online. Kelce may have doomed his own team by disrespecting a beloved New Orleans staple.
Days before the big game, Kelce made it clear he wasn’t a fan of the region’s famous cuisine. "I’m not a gumbo guy," he told reporters. "The crawfish and jambalaya, I’m just out on jambalaya and gumbo. I like seafood, I just don’t like it in a soup, in a brown soup.
That comment didn’t sit well with locals, and when the Chiefs’ offense struggled under the bright lights of the Super Bowl, social media erupted with jokes that Kelce had angered the football gods or at least the culinary ones.
This wasn’t the first time Kelce had thrown shade at Creole cuisine. On a podcast with his brother Jason Kelce last year, he described jambalaya by saying, "It’s like a soupy rice and then it’s pooey.”
To his credit, Kelce tried to clarify his stance before the Super Bowl, insisting, "Just because I don’t like to crack open spicy crab legs doesn’t mean I don’t like the city."
