Joe Biden trolled as he reportedly plans to visit NYC for interview with 'Late Night' host Seth Meyers
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: President Joe Biden is set to travel to Manhattan on Monday for a taped interview with 'Late Night' host Seth Meyers, according to an undisclosed source reported by The Post.
The plans have not been officially disclosed by the White House or the Biden campaign, raising eyebrows and drawing online criticism.
Joe Biden breaks silence
At 81, Biden has been notably reserved in granting interviews compared to his recent predecessors, and he has not engaged with American newspaper reporters during his three years in office.
The president's upcoming trip to New York will not only involve the interview with Meyers but also include a fundraising event at a nearby hotel.
Meyers, whose show airs after midnight on NBC, is no stranger to controversy. His fame escalated after he famously mocked Donald Trump at the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an act some claim contributed to Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump, expected to face off against Biden in a November rematch, has not held back in expressing his disdain for Meyers.
Donald Trump's scathing critique
In a 2020 Oval Office interview with The Post, Trump referred to Meyers as a "no-talent comic" with a penchant for mispronouncing words and being nervously inarticulate.
Trump criticized Meyers, along with other late-night hosts like Stephen Colbert, questioning their qualifications for their roles and branding Meyers as a "zero."
"That no-talent comic was nasty — ‘marble mouth,’ because he can’t speak properly," Trump stated in the interview. "Seth Meyers, he was nasty. Just one joke. The guy’s got no talent whatsoever. Zero."
Trump continued, expressing disbelief at the employment of Meyers and Colbert, stating, "How do these guys get jobs? I don’t get it. How does a Seth Meyers, how does [Stephen] Colbert — has no talent, there’s nothing funny about him, nothing funny. You look at some of these people and you say, ‘How do they get a job?’ They are just so average."
Silence persists
The White House, the Biden campaign, and NBC have yet to respond to The Post’s requests for comment on the upcoming interview.
As news of Biden's planned interview circulates, online critics and supporters alike are voicing their opinions on social media platforms, with some questioning the choice of Meyers for the interview and others expressing anticipation for the late-night banter.
Internet reacts
Biden's pre-recorded interview with Seth Meyers becomes a focal point of online discussions. One user wrote, "Pre recorded of course. Hardly rare for Biden."
Another added, "Seth is a permanent administrative state asset."
One commented, "Taped, edited, and will be reshot as needed. All lies."
One replied, "Do it live."
Another commented, "How many takes will it take? Let's see a live interview."
