Internet mocks Maxwell Frost for proposing to remove Statue of Liberty in protest of GOP immigration bill
WASHINGTON DC: Social media users ridiculed Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., for his suggestion to Republicans to enact a law to remove the Statue of Liberty in conjunction with their "bigoted" immigration legislation.
The House Oversight and Accountability Committee's hearing on immigration deliberated on H.R.2, the Secure the Border Act, a comprehensive border security and immigration bill that the House GOP passed in May.
The legislation proposes limitations on the asylum process for individuals crossing the border and mandates the continuation of construction on the border wall, per New York Post.

Maxwell Frost reportedly proposed the removal of the Statue of Liberty as a form of protest against the Republicans' recent efforts to push for stricter immigration policies.
The congressman presented a satirical bill proposing the removal of the Statue of Liberty, which he suggested Republicans should pass as well.
"My colleagues from the other side of the aisle, let's be honest with immigrants who deserve better than what you’re offering them," Frost said.
"Don't welcome immigrants if you plan to reject them. If you keep pushing your bigoted H.R. 2 bill, then also pass this bill. I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you," he added, holding up the draft.
"It removes the Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that tells people to come here."
"This is who you are, removing the fabric of America. So, I want to know which Republican, who supports and voted for H.R.2, will introduce this bill," he stated.
"If you're gonna support H.R.2 and these bigoted measures, the least you can do is not be a d–n liar."

Frost's allusion to the renowned monument was criticized by social media users and contributors for merging substantial immigration reform with the inscription on the Statue of Liberty.
"This is ridiculous," The Telegraph contributor Nile Gardiner commented.
A user mocked Maxwell, "How do people this stupid get elected?"
"It's the "Statue of Liberty!" not the statue of illegal immigration," said another.
"That’s the worst attempt at gaslighting I have ever seen. Where y’all @TheDemocrats find these people?" stated another.
"Max Frost doesn’t “know too much about history ”. Doesn’t seem to care too much about it either," mentioned another.
A user remarked, "Does this guy represent a district in Central America? Who voted for this."
"Here is a person IN CONGRESS who never studied US History," tweeted one person.
"To him it is the Statue of Open Borders," added another.
