WASHINGTON, DC: Former Attorney General Bill Barr has warned the opponents of Donald Trump that the Colorado Supreme Court ruling prohibiting the former President from the state's primary ballot is "counterproductive," asserting that "he feeds on grievance."

Reacting to the state SC ruling to CNN's Jake Tapper, the former Trump Attorney General said, "I think this kind of action of stretching the law, taking these hyper-aggressive positions to knock Trump out the race are counterproductive. They backfire."

"As you know, he feeds on grievance just like a fire feeds on oxygen, and this will end up as a grievance that helps him," he added.

Emphasizing his opposition against Trump's Republican nomination, Barr also stated that the "case is legally wrong and untenable."

The Colorado SC on December 19 disqualified Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate, from participating in the state's March 2024 primary ballot leading up to the presidential election, citing the US Constitution's insurrection clause, which he validated by instigating the January 6 Capitol attack.

Bill Barr says Donald Trump was denied due process

The ex-attorney general disagrees with the SC ruling, saying that the former President was denied due process. "Legally here, the denial of due process is fatal," Barr said.

He continued, "To deprive somebody of the right to hold public office requires due process. It requires adjudication of two core issues: One, was there an insurrection? Did the public disturbance rise to the level of an insurrection? And second, what was the role of the individual? Was it engagement? Did they do something to break their oath of office?"

Barr further argued that if the court decides these questions for themselves, it would create "chaos."

Close Trump allies and conservative political commentators also backed Trump after the historical Colorado SC ruling. The GOP candidate's son, Eric Trump, supported his father, saying the court ruling would boost his poll position.

Another shocking support came from fellow Republican rival candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who vowed to withdraw from the state's primary ballot until Trump gets reinstated.

On the other hand, Fox News host Jesse Watters called the SC decision a "targeted lawsuit."

Internet reacts to Bill Barr's opinion

Netizens are hardly pleased with the opinion of Barr, who was recently labeled a "coward" by Trump. Many pointed out that whatever he pointed out against the Colorado SC ruling is "absurd."

One user labeled Barr as "The Devil's Attorney General."

Another user said, "Reminder. Billy Bar has been wrong about everything."

"Keep coddling him I guess," read a third reaction.

A fourth user stated, "Says the guy who was Trump's weaponized AG."

"Regardless. If the show fits wear it. Their selectiveness is ridiculous. He talks out of both sides of his mouth," added one user.

Another remarked, "So every decision made by a justice entity should consider his political gain and/or loss in the equation? That's absurd."
