MADISON, WISCONSIN: The Wall Street Journal has issued a stark warning to Donald Trump and his allies. Tuesday night’s election results suggest that voters are pushing back against what they call the “Trump-Musk governing style.”

The editorial “The MAGA Backlash Arrives” argues that Democrats’ victories in two Republican-leaning Florida districts and a Wisconsin Supreme Court race spell trouble for the GOP in 2026, Mediaite reported.

The Wall Street Journal's editorial board is framing Tuesday night’s election outcomes in Wisconsin and Florida as a stark wake-up call for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

The newspaper’s editorial board highlighted the significance of Tuesday’s election, noting, “Democrats solidified their 4-3 progressive majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday, and the ramifications are nationwide.”

In a late Tuesday editorial, the Journal's board described liberal Judge Susan Crawford’s victory as “the second sign in two weeks of a political backlash against the Trump Presidency.”

“Democrats turned out in large numbers to defeat Republican Judge Brad Schimel in a race in which the two sides may have spent as much as $100 million. Democrats sought to make the race a referendum on Elon Musk and Donald Trump, and Mr Musk responded by trying to mobilize the Trump voters who tend to stay home in spring elections,” the editorial stated. “The Democratic bet paid off.”

“That’s a warning to the GOP that the Trump-Musk governing style is stirring a backlash that could cost them control of Congress next year,” it further stated.

On Tuesday, Republicans managed to retain two House seats in Florida, though the Journal noted that the margins were tighter than anticipated. In their analysis, they remarked, “We hope the results don’t scare House Republicans into backing away from their tax and regulatory reform agenda.”

The newspaper cautioned that the election results “are a warning to Mr Trump to focus on what got him re-elected, especially prices and growth in real incomes after inflation.”

They further noted that “his willy-nilly tariff agenda undermining stock prices and consumer and business confidence isn’t helping.” The Journal warned. “The MAGA majority may have a shorter run than advertised.”

The Journal, owned by billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch, has taken a critical stance on Trump throughout the first three months of his presidency. Murdoch’s relationship with Trump has been historically inconsistent, shifting between support and opposition over the years.

A Wall Street Journal report connecting recent election results to a backlash against Donald Trump and Elon Musk has ignited a firestorm online, with users offering strong reactions to the outcome.

Some pointed to the stark numbers as a warning sign. “Trump won Wisconsin by 30,000. Last night the liberal won by 240,000. If you don't consider that a warning sign, you are a cult member,” one user wrote.

Another added, “Midterms will be a bloodbath for MAGA.”

“MAGA won't admit it, but they're scared witless,” one comment read.

Elon Musk was also dragged into the conversation, with one user alleging, “Elon Musk paid people to vote in Wisconsin and still lost. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.”

“These results are a clear repudiation of Trump and Musk. The lopsided nature of the results should terrify Republicans,” a commenter wrote.

Another user stated, “This is hilarious.”
