Why did Zayn Malik cancel his Newcastle concert?

Zayn Malik addressed fans via Instagram Stories, citing vocal health issues for the abrupt decision.

"I’m so sorry to do this, but my voice just isn’t there at all tonight, and without it, there’s no show," Malik wrote.

"I’m truly sorry to let you down, especially at such short notice… I held onto hope until the very last moment," he added.

"I’m hopeful with some rest tonight to be back on stage tomorrow." Malik ended the message with, "My deepest apologies Newcastle, love you all xx."

Venue announcements and refunds

Fans at the venue were informed of the cancellation through an announcement moments before Zayn Malik's scheduled performance, according to Metro UK.

"The show will no longer go ahead tonight. We apologize for the late notice; it was [Malik’s] hope that he would be able to continue with the show, but this is no longer possible," stated the announcement.

Attendees were encouraged to contact their ticket providers for refunds or rescheduling information of the show.

Zayn Malik's challenging tour and tribute to Liam Payne

The Stairway to the Sky Tour, which began on October 23, has seen its share of challenges.

Initially slated for 11 stops across the US and UK, the tour’s American leg was rescheduled following the tragic death of Malik's former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne in October.

Payne, who died on October 16 at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was honored multiple times by Malik during his Stairway to the Sky tour.

At a Leeds performance on November 23, Malik paid tribute to his late friend just days after Payne's funeral.

On November 29, while performing in Payne’s hometown of Wolverhampton, Malik dedicated his song 'It’s You' to him.

“So I’ve been doing something at the end of the show every night, and it is being dedicated to my brother Liam Payne,” Malik told the audience, as seen in fan-shared videos from the concert.

“Rest in peace. I hope you see this. We’re in your hometown tonight, Wolverhampton. This is for you Liam,” he said, according to People.

"it makes me very sad to think that he waited until the last moment to sing, and when he realized that he couldn't, he decided to cancel it ZAYN ALWAYS YOUR HEALTH BEFORE EVERYTHING! TAKE CARE I LOVE YOU," a netizen commented.
