Fans call out TLC’s 'secret' addiction narrative after Tammy Slaton's confession
Longtime viewers of '1000-Lb Sisters' were quick to point out inconsistencies in the storyline.
Before Tammy Slaton entered rehab for her food addiction, she was known to drink and vape with friends. While some fans assumed she had given up vaping during her time in rehab, it appears the habit persisted.
Reddit users were particularly skeptical of the way TLC framed Tammy’s vaping as a secret.
One fan asked, "How is someone who has people taking care of them all day, just went on a long trip where she was being carted around the entire time, can hide a serious vaping problem? She can't drive herself to the store to buy it. Is it something TLC added for some drama and suspense for next season? I don't think Tammy is above hiding a problem like that (she had issues before with substances) I just wonder how is it logistically possible to hide that given her circumstances."
Another added, "I mean Tammy was vaping in the season where she was partying every single night. That shouldn’t be no secret."
Someone else noted, "That drama is really ridiculous. First off, saying that she was denied the skin removal Surgery is just false. She wasn’t denied that initial doctor simply said it would need more of a team than he was able to manage. And of course Tammy got pissed off about it, turned, beat red, and wanted to kill the world because all she heard was no, which was not true. Now for her health and safety the new team of doctors tell her absolutely no nicotine because she will have 100% complication in healing and now she’s pissed off again. This was her fault and her doing alone. She failed herself. How ridiculous."
A follower remarked, "It was drama drummed up for the show. Her family and those around her knows she vapes. The audience (most likely) didn’t know, and her doctors apparently didn’t know. So TLC made it into a big thing."
One comment read, "I thought it was common knowledge that she vapes."
Another observed, "Family knew, I think editing took out any evidence to create drama."
As one person explained, "They all knew. Except the doctors. TLC doesn’t really show anybody smoking— at all. I would almost think it’s some kind of policy of theirs not to promote it. But since it was going to come up as a denial for surgery they had to introduce it."
Tammy Slaton previously spotted vaping outside Walmart while on oxygen
Back in 2023, Tammy Slaton was spotted vaping while using an oxygen tank during an outing in her hometown.
The 36-year-old reality star was seen outside a Kentucky Walmart over the weekend, riding an electric scooter with a cart overflowing with sugary cereals, chips, and children’s toys.
Sporting her signature red hair pulled back and a nasal cannula for oxygen support, Tammy’s outing was captured exclusively in photos shared by The Sun.

This isn’t the first time Tammy has raised eyebrows for vaping while reliant on oxygen.
In a memorable episode from Season 3 of her reality show, which aired in January 2022, she was seen vaping in the backseat of a friend’s car, prompting concern from fans about her health choices.
"We've just been drinking, vaping ... as a teenager I wasn't doing any partying,” she said during a confessional. “I was super shy about my weight and I didn't really have many friends.”
