Gerwig, 40, and Baumbach, 54, first connected professionally in 2010 while working on the film 'Greenberg'. At the time, Baumbach was coming off his recent divorce from actor Jennifer Jason Leigh, with whom he shares a son. Gerwig was not previously married or engaged.

In 2011, Gerwig and Baumbach struck up a romantic relationship which has since resulted in two sons - Harold, born in 2019, and a younger son born earlier this year. Professionally, the talented directors have collaborated on several critically acclaimed films, including 'Frances Ha' (2012), 'Mistress America' (2015), and 'Margot at the Wedding' (2007).

Earlier this year, Gerwig made history as the first female director of a live-action film grossing over $1 billion with her smash hit 'Barbie'. The film's concept and screenplay were co-written with Baumbach, who told press in October: "It’s the best thing we’ve ever written."
