WASHINGTON, DC: As jury selection for Trump's hush money trial began on April 15, Lara Trump, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), called the hush money lawsuit against her father-in-law, Donald Trump, "insane," as per The Hill.

The first day of the hush money trial, in which the former president is accused of 34 counts of falsifying company records, was held in a New York courtroom. Lara Trump attacked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for filing the lawsuit amid the 2024 election campaign.

Lara Trump labels hush money case as ‘insane'

Lara Trump stated on NewsNation’s 'Morning in America', "It is ridiculous that they are dragging this man in a New York City courtroom. It is so clear how partisan this is, that Alvin Bragg himself wouldn’t even take this case up until when until Donald Trump announced he was running for president."

She added, "It is insane that we are in this place in the United States of America."

Even though the issue was "ludicrous" she said she did not think it would harm the former president's bid for the presidency. People "don't care about these court cases" that have been brought against Trump, she said.

She further stated, "This doesn’t have anything to do with crime or with the right thing happening. It’s about politics. People see that, they understand that, and it is why whenever you have situations like this, our fundraising tends to go up. I don’t think this will be any different. I think people are going to continue to support this president."

Trump will have to spend a significant amount of time in the New York courtroom rather than on the campaign road since the trial is expected to last at least six weeks. On his days off, he is anticipated to attend campaign-related activities.

Concerning his payments to his former fixer, Michael Cohen, for paying adult film actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 before the 2016 election in exchange for her silence on an alleged romance with the former president, Trump is accused of 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Internet mocks Lara Trump for her statement on hush money trial

A person added, "So why are they so worried about it?" whereas one mentioned, "What’s insane is the number of crimes Donald Trump has committed, and he hasn’t even been charged for enough of them."

A person also stated, "Grab a chair, things are just getting started. #sleepyDon" while one mentioned, "If there is anyone that knows insanity it has to be her."
