ABC News’ David Muir returns to air with looser jacket after backlash over tailored look amid LA fires
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ABC News anchor David Muir went on air with a loosely fitted jacket on Thursday, January 9, after getting slammed online for his outfit the day before, reported Fox News.
The 51-year-old journalist has been reporting live from Southern California over the last few days, where he has been covering the raging wildfires that are yet to be fully contained.
David Muir returns for LA fire coverage in looser jacket after clothespin controversy
According to the publication, David Muir wore a yellow fireproof jacket with the ABC News logo emblazoned on it while covering the trail of destruction left behind by the fires in LA during ABC's 'World News Tonight' on Wednesday, January 8.
While delivering a piece-to-camera, he turned back at one point and revealed what appeared to be clothespins that were keeping the jacket tight around his body. Netizens made a mockery of the faux pas on social media and slammed him for allegedly putting considerable effort into his appearance while reporting a tragedy.
Muir was called out for his "narcissism" while wildfires ravaged Los Angeles.
It appeared as though taking a cue from the criticism, Muir returned to report the following night wearing a noticeably looser flame-retardant jacket.
The zipper of the garment remained undone throughout his piece. In the course of the broadcast, Muir was also seen without the jacket, surveying the devastation wearing civilian clothes.
Internet continues to mock David Muir over clothespin faux pas
After David Muir appeared on television wearing a fitted jacket on Wednesday, Jack Osbourne, son of rock star Ozzy Osbourne, shared a clip of the broadcast on the social media platform X, writing, "Nice Jacket Bro. Glad you look nice and svelte with those clothes line pegs, while our city burns to the ground."
The post has been since viewed over 3.1 million times.

Muir's change in outfit following the backlash did not soften the public sentiment, as the following tweets after the next day's broadcast demonstrate.
"Hope he's comfortable," mocked a user.
"This guy is a clown," wrote another.
"David Muir out here solving the age-old question: How do you stay camera-ready while reporting on disasters? Answer: Clothespins and confidence," quipped a third.

"He aged like 30 years overnight," jibed another.
"Forget it David. The damage is already done. A loose jacket will not change how you wanted to report earlier," noted one user.
Funny. Absolutely Funny. Appearances are more important than the news. Forget it David. The damage is already done. A loose jacket will not change how you wanted to report earlier.
