NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: At the 2024 GLAAD Media Awards ceremony on Saturday night, May 11, in New York City, actress Jennifer Lawrence unleashed a tirade against former Vice President Mike Pence, questioning his sexuality and accusing him of being a closeted gay man, as per Breitbart.

The controversial comments drew widespread condemnation from online critics across various social media platforms who slammed Lawrence for her offensive and unsupported claims about Pence.

The annual event, hosted by the prominent LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), got off to a disruptive start even before Lawrence took the stage.

An invited guest had to be escorted out after standing up and shouting that GLAAD was "complicit in genocide" over the situation in Gaza. TV personality Ross Matthews, serving as the host, acknowledged the disruption, stating, "That was uncomfy for everybody. But you know what? We have to fight for everyone's rights – and that's one of them."

However, the real controversy erupted when Lawrence, the Oscar-winning actress known for her roles in films like 'Silver Linings Playbook' and 'The Hunger Games' series, decided to target Pence with a series of crude jokes and suggestions about his sexuality.

Lawrence, who is not gay herself, first attempted to connect with the LGBTQ audience by expressing her admiration for gay musician Orville Peck, the recipient of the Vito Russo Award that night. "I love seeing so many humans who can top their field while still being power bottoms," she quipped, employing a blunt gay sexual reference.

From there, Lawrence launched into an odd anecdote about falling in love with a gay man, only to realize her love would always be one-sided. "Conversion therapy doesn't work," she declared, hinting that her affection could not turn the man straight.

It was at this point that Lawrence set her sights on Pence, who, during his time as Trump's vice president, had been a frequent target of LGBTQ critics due to his conservative stances on related issues.

"Did you hear me, Mike Pence? I said conversion therapy is not real – even though you think it worked on you," Lawrence stated, directly accusing Pence of being a closeted gay man.
