Alec Baldwin’s crash story challenged by dashcam video showing different sequence of events
EAST HAMPTON, NEW YORK : New dashcam footage obtained by Newsmax appears to contradict Alec Baldwin’s account of the car crash he and his brother, Stephen Baldwin, were involved in on Monday afternoon in the Hamptons.
The 1-minute, 29-second clip, reportedly recorded by the commercial truck Alec Baldwin claimed had “cut him off,” shows a very different sequence of events from what the 'Rust' actor described.

Dashcam footage tells a different story of Baldwins crash
The video begins with the truck exiting a parking lot and making a legal right turn onto Montauk Highway in East Hampton. Roughly 30 seconds later, Baldwin’s white Range Rover appears in the frame, attempting to pass the truck on the right before veering onto the shoulder and crashing head-on into a tree.
The footage shows the Range Rover’s crumpled front end in the aftermath but gives no indication that the truck obstructed Baldwin’s lane. The driver of the truck maintains a steady course throughout the clip, suggesting there was no sudden movement that could have forced Baldwin to swerve.
Alec Baldwin blames a 'garbage truck the size of a whale' for crash
Hours after the accident, Baldwin posted a video to Instagram describing his version of events. “To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a big fat tree and crushed my car - my wife’s car,” the 67-year-old actor said. “A garbage truck the size of a whale cut me off.”

However, according to Newsmax, the dashcam footage contradicts that claim. Instead, it shows Baldwin’s SUV trying to maneuver around the truck after it had already completed its turn.
No investigation beyond standard procedures
The East Hampton Police Department confirmed that no citations have been issued and that the matter remains a routine traffic incident. “I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that,” Baldwin said in his Instagram video. “But it’s all fine, and I’m fine, and my brother’s fine.”
Baldwin also thanked local emergency responders, singling out Officer Gerken of the East Hampton Police Department. “As nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing,” he said.
Baldwin brothers 'doing fine' after crash
Stephen Baldwin, 59, was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash. His representative confirmed to Us Weekly that both brothers were “doing well” and “grateful no one was injured.”
“Stephen is doing fine and is grateful no one was injured,” his rep said. “He’s relieved that this was just an accident with no serious injuries, and both brothers are taking time to rest.”
The incident occurred shortly after the Baldwin brothers attended the Hamptons International Film Festival, where they promoted their joint podcast, 'One Bad Movie'.
Alec Baldwin added that he plans to leave New York shortly to reunite with his family in Los Angeles. “Going out to California to gather my family together, spend a few days out there, and then come home,” he told followers.
