Alex Cooper defends Harris' interview on 'Call Her Daddy', says Donald Trump 'is also welcome anytime'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Alex Cooper has defended her decision to interview Vice President Kamala Harris on her popular podcast 'Call Her Daddy' ahead of the November 5 election.

Alex Cooper faced backlash from some listeners who criticized her for bringing politics into the show and pointig soft questions at Harris. The questions were focused on women’s rights and abortion.

During the Sunday, October 6, episode, Alex Cooper addressed the controversy and explained her reasons for discussing political topics on the podcast after she invited Kamala Harris. 

"As you guys know, I do not usually discuss politics or have politicians on the show because I want 'Call Her Daddy' to be a place that everyone feels comfortable tuning in,” she stated, according to Page Six.

However, she said she had been grappling with the decision for some time, going “back and forth” on whether to get involved.

Cooper highlighted that the focus of her podcast is mental health, relationships, trauma and other things.

“Overall, my focus is women and the day-to-day issues that we face. But at the end of the day, I couldn’t see a world in which one of the main conversations of this election is women and I’m not a part of it,” she added.



 

Alex Cooper addresses her audience's political diversity

Alex Cooper acknowledged that her audience has a diverse range of political beliefs and her intention was not to persuade anyone.

Cooper said "this isn't a one-sided conversation" as she had also invited former president Donald Trump.

“I am so aware I have a very mixed audience when it comes to politics, so please hear me when I say my goal today is not to change your political affiliation,” she explained to her listeners.

In a surprising move, the 30-year-old podcast host revealed that she had "reached out to former president Donald Trump", inviting him to join the show.

"If he also wants to have a meaningful and in-depth conversation about women’s rights in this country, then he is welcome on 'Call Her Daddy' anytime,” she said.

Alex Cooper discusses preparation for interview with Kamala Harris

Alex Cooper revealed the extensive preparation she undertook for her interview with Kamala Harris, preparing seven different versions of the conversation.

She ultimately felt that Harris was “most qualified” to discuss issues related to women’s rights, their bodies, and how they are treated in the US.

The 'Call Her Daddy', which launched in 2018, has become one of the top-ranked podcasts in the US with 90% of its listeners being women, according to facts.net.

The podcast secured a lucrative deal with Spotify in 2021, making Cooper the highest-paid female podcast host. According to Bloomberg report, this year, Cooper also signed a $100 million, three-year deal with SiriusXM, Newsweek reported.
