AUSTIN, TEXAS: Alex Jones appears to be displeased with the recent acquisition of his Infowars website by The Onion.

On the morning of Thursday, November 14, following the announcement of the sale of the conspiracy-promoting website to the satirical newspaper, Jones expressed his grievances on X, previously known as Twitter, decrying what he perceived as the unfairness of the situation.

Alex Jones announces Infowars shutdown

Alex Jones mentioned in a video posted on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, “I just got word 15 minutes ago that my lawyers and folks met with the US trustee over our bankruptcy this morning and they said they are shutting us down even without a court order this morning.”

The Onion acquired Infowars on Wednesday, November 13, through a private auction, as part of a personal bankruptcy strategy to compensate the families of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting victims, according to HuffPost.

In 2022, families won a $1.4 billion defamation lawsuit against Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, following his false allegations that the shooting was staged and that the relatives of the 20 children and six adults who were killed were merely actors.

The Onion's fictional CEO mocks Infowars acquisition

The Onion reported the sale on its website through an editorial by the imaginary CEO Bryce P Tetraeder, who commended Infowars for its distinctiveness as “an invaluable tool for brainwashing and controlling the masses.”

He said, "With a shrewd mix of delusional paranoia and dubious anti-aging nutrition hacks, they strive to make life both scarier and longer for everyone, a commendable goal."

As of Thursday afternoon, November 14, the Infowars website displays only a landing page with the message: "Site unavailable till further notice."

A third commentator wrote, "What’s even funnier is Alex will be up and running again today they haven’t done shit except buy some overpriced, used studio equipment "

"OK, The Onion buying Infowars is a pretty funny troll," an X user trolled.
