NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) denounced House Republicans' efforts on Wednesday, November 20, to bar transgender people from using gender-neutral restrooms in the Capitol.

She labeled the measures introduced by Rep Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) this week as "disgusting" and "gross".

AOC condemns Nancy Mace's transgender bathroom ban

On November 18, Representative Nancy Mace proposed a resolution to prevent transgender House members and staff from using bathrooms corresponding to their gender identity, referencing the election of Representative-elect Sarah McBride as an influencing factor, The Hill reports.

On November 20, Speaker Johnson introduced a policy that restricts transgender individuals from using restrooms corresponding to their gender identity in the Capitol. Subsequently, Mace proposed an extension of this ban to encompass all federal buildings.

“What Nancy Mace and what Speaker Johnson are doing are endangering all women and girls,” Ocasio-Cortez addressed the reporters.

She added, “Because if you ask them, ‘What is your plan on how to enforce this?’ they won’t come up with an answer. And what it inevitably results in are women and girls who are primed for assault because people are gonna want to check their private parts in suspecting who is trans and who is cis and who’s doing what.”

“The idea that Nancy Mace wants little girls and women to drop trou in front of who — an investigator? Who would that be? — because she wants to suspect and point fingers at who she thinks is trans is disgusting. It is disgusting,” Ocasio-Cortez went on to say.

“And frankly, all it does is allow these Republicans to go around and bully any woman who isn’t wearing a skirt because they think she might not look woman enough,” she said.

“People have a right to express themselves, to dress how they want and to be who they are. And if a woman doesn’t look woman enough to a Republican, they want to be able to inspect her genitals to be able to use the bathroom? It’s disgusting. And everybody, no matter how you feel on this issue, should reject it completely.”

"Why are they doing this? They're doing this so Nancy Mace can make a buck and send a text and fund-raise off an email," Ocasio-Cortez. "They're not doing this to protect people — they're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kind and everybody should reject it. It's gross."

AOC's comments on the transgender restroom ban spark outrage

As soon as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's comments on the transgender restroom ban against Nancy Mace emerged on social media, there was an immediate reaction from users.

A user criticized her saying, "Did AOC not hear the message from voters earlier this month? AOC has removed pronouns from her bio, which is interesting... Nobody is going to perform genital checks. This is the refuge of a woman who knows she is on the wrong side."

Another added, "Blah blah blah. Stop acting like these men “pass” You enforce it just like every other trespass and violation."

Another commentator gave a two-word reaction, "It's ridiculous."

"You will continue to lose and we are ok with that," a critic said.

A person said, "Sorry sweetheart. Your weird little fad is over."

"I hope she keeps saying insane things like this," wrote one user.
