'American Idol' fans claim runner-up John Foster’s face showed he knew the result before it was announced

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jamal Roberts was crowned the winner of 'American Idol' Season 23 on Sunday, May 18, but many viewers suspect runner-up John Foster saw the result moments before it was announced.

Foster stole the hearts of 'American Idol' fans all across the country during his audition by performing two classic country tunes, 'Don't Rock The Jukebox' and 'Goodbye Time', according to Gator 99.5.

The 'American Idol' finale was a three-hour-long event, consisting of many performances, including one from Jessica Simpson. 

After the second round of songs, the show eliminated Texas' Breanna Nix, leaving only Foster and Roberts in the race to win the ultimate title.

Interestingly, the clip from the episode that has gone viral suggests that Foster might have already known his fate.

Before the announcement of the winner, host Ryan Seacrest stood on stage with the two finalists. Foster stood right next to Seacrest, whereas Robers was on the other side.

Seacrest paused for a moment before announcing the winner’s name.

However, before he spoke, he opened the envelope, and some believed that Foster might have seen the name inside because he had a disappointed look even before the winner's name was announced.

Ultimately, Jamal was named the winner, and Foster was the runner-up.

Meanwhile, TV Insider reported that Foster did indeed "barely" see the results on the envelope. The outlet caught up with Foster after the finale, and the singer said, "I was in a total blur. I knew I was at peace with being runner-up. Jamal is such an incredible performer. I was at peace. I really was. It’s a true honor to be runner-up."

Notably, the final five contestants for the season were Nix, Foster, Roberts, Slater Nalley, and Thunderstorm Artis.

Several 'American Idol' viewers felt John Foster saw the result moments before it was announced, and that it was evident in his facial reaction in the viral clip.

An Instagram user commented, "John deff peeped down the card & saw Jamal name on there n looked at him & smiled," while one added, "John saw the card! He knew!"

A person stated, "John saw the name on the card. That must have been tough," whereas one mentioned, "John totally accidentally saw the card lol. So deserved! Wish we wish see the whole end ! They need to start that part sooner so we can see the celebration."

"YALL SAW JOHN LOOK AT THE CARD?😂 he saw Jamal name," one more wrote, while another commented, "My Guy peeped it out before Ryan announced."

"John saw that Jamal won and was just like his name a gracious competitor!" an individual remarked.
