LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Carrie Underwood and the rest of the celebrity judges of ‘American Idol’ have come under fire for destroying a “perfectly usable” truck for their performance amid the recent acts of vandalism against Tesla.

While the keying of the vehicle was obviously a reference to the Idol winner-turned-judge Underwood’s hit 2005 single ‘Before He Cheats’, the skit failed to strike a chord with a section of the social media users, reported Whiskey Riff.

In fact, several fans called out the 42-year-old ‘Champion’ singer for her “tone deaf” behavior while urging her to “read the room” before agreeing to do some skit.

Ahead of Sunday, March 23, episode of the hit singing show, Carrie Underwood shared a video of her keying a red truck, which many of the singer’s ardent fans would recall is a direct nod to her ‘Before He Cheats’ single.

Sharing the video, she wrote, however, "Ladies, don’t do this. You’ll ruin your car key!   #CUonIDOL."

Apart from the ‘Remind Me’ singer, stars Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie also grace the judges’ table as the mentors in the musical reality show.

In another video shared by the official Instagram handle of ‘American Idol’, the judges along with the show’s host—Ryan Seacrest—were also seen smashing the immobile vehicle.

The skit, however, did not sit well with the fans who were reminded of the acts of violence against Tesla. Tesla, one of the primary businesses of Elon Musk, has become the symbol of the growing dominance of the billionaire over the government and his connection to the Republican Party.

After President Donald Trump took office in January, Musk was appointed as the Head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), who has since been trying to decrease government spending by cutting federal jobs.

Carrie Underwood under fire for keying truck amid acts of vandalism against Tesla

The Internet was furious with Carrie Underwood and the entire 'American Idol' team for destroying a "perfectly usable truck" for views. Many of them even slammed the judges for their "terrible timing" as they filmed the skit as a nod to Underwood's 'Before He Cheats' performance.

One of the social media users said, "Love ya, but this is terrible timing."

Someone else wrote, "Come on Carrie…read the room. 😐."

"Sad 😔 people should respect others property," noted another fan.

Someone else pointed out, "Carrie, with all the vandalism being done to Teslas might not be a good time for this."

"I am not sure what the message is but I sure hope it’s not evil," added another user.

One person asked, "Why, just why, Carrie? Are you tone deaf right now 😳."

Another angry fan added, "I just unfollowed @carrieunderwood Terrible timing to destroy a car for any reason! I only followed you after you sung at @realDonaldTrump inauguration. Bye!"

"You are on the wrong side of history," warned another disgruntled social media user.

Someone else asked, "R U actually promoting the keying of cars???"

"It would have been worse if this was a Tesla," added another.

The fans flocked to the Instagram video as well and expressed their anger. One of them wrote, "Maybe next time @Americanidol can donate this perfectly usable truck to a family in need instead of trash it for ratings. Ridiculous."

Someone else added, "They should have donated, I love American Idol, but don't we have enough violence? 😞."

"I am sorry ! I don’t like this crazy idea ! 😵‍💫👎," reminded another displeased fan.

One person asked, "What has happened to American idol ?"

Nevertheless, some of the fans loved the reference to Underwood's hit song, as one of them penned on Instagram, "Loved how they brought Before He Cheats to life! 🔥."

"Maybe Next Time He’ll Think Before He Cheats," quipped someone on X.
