Her appearance, paired with a festive arrival alongside Santa Claus in a V-22 Osprey, marked one of her most widely shared holiday engagements of the season.

Melania Trump’s warm moment with child draws praise

The event drew national attention after a video surfaced showing Melania Trump gently lifting a young girl who walked up to her during the toy-sorting activities. In the clip, the first lady could be seen speaking softly to the child as Santa stood beside them, creating a heartwarming holiday tableau that spread quickly across X.

Melania Trump arrived with Santa, helped children sort toys, and assisted Marines in distributing gifts to local families. Many supporters praised her compassion online, with some comparing her to Princess Diana and writing, “Melania reminds me of Princess Diana in a lot of ways,” and, “Is it just me, or are we witnessing the rise of an American Princess Diana? She has stepped into the role of First Lady with remarkable grace, dignity, and timeless beauty."

Another user wrote, "Notice how she makes sure the girls dress is down and covering her, protecting her. What a sweet moment."

Noting cultural similarities, one praised her authenticity around children, saying, "My roots are in the same part of the world Melania is from and I can tell you she is 100% authentic in this - children are beloved in this part of the world and treated like royalty.  We are very fortunuate to have her as the First Lady."

Others predicted criticism from political opponents, with one writing, “I can hear the radical lefts go rrrrrrracist! She picked up a white girl, not any other lol.”

Some contrasted the moment with past viral clips of former President Joe Biden interacting with children, sharing GIFs and comments such as, “Quite the improvement from …(Biden).”

Melania Trump recounts whimsical North Pole journey with Santa

During her remarks at the event, Melania Trump offered a playful Christmas tale about how she and Santa traveled to Quantico, trading reindeer for a military aircraft.

“With his sleigh parked safely with his reindeer, Santa climbed aboard my Osprey and couldn’t stop smiling,” she said. She described him gazing out the window, grinning at American families below.

She added that Santa told her the Osprey floated through the sky like a giant snowflake but was much faster than a sleigh. To reassure children concerned about the reindeer, she explained that Rudolph, Dasher, Comet, and the rest were resting in the North Pole, snuggled under warm blankets and sipping candy cane cocoa.

Melania Trump urges families to embrace Christmas meaning

Melania Trump shifted to a more heartfelt message as she encouraged families to center the season around love rather than gifts.

“This Christmas season, you, your friends, and your families should wish for the ultimate gift: love,” she said. “After all, love travels further than Santa’s sleigh.”

The Toys for Tots event, run by the Marine Corps Reserve, collects new toys for children in need. Melania Trump closed her remarks by thanking service members and inviting Santa to greet the families, drawing cheers from the crowd.
