Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer split after 7 years, call divorce a ‘cohesive’ decision
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Comedian and actor Amy Schumer announced on Friday, December 12, that she and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, were ending their marriage after more than seven years together.
Schumer, 44, shared the news in a candid Instagram post, describing the decision as difficult but made with mutual respect. The couple married in February 2018 after beginning their relationship in 2017 and share one child, their son Gene, who was born in May 2019.

In her post, Schumer addressed the split directly, writing, “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after seven years."
She added that there was no animosity between them and said they remained committed to co-parenting their son. “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time,” she wrote.
Schumer also used humor to dismiss speculation surrounding the breakup. Joking about online rumors, she said the decision was not related to her recent weight loss or Fischer’s career success.
She went on to poke fun at assumptions about Fischer, calling him a “hot James Beard award–winning chef,” while making it clear that outside narratives had nothing to do with their separation.
Amy Schumer calls the split amicable and ‘all love and respect’
Schumer closed her message by stressing that the divorce was amicable, writing, “All love and respect. Family forever.”
The post, which was seen by her more than 12 million followers, featured a photo of Schumer and Fischer sitting together on a New York City subway, reinforcing the cooperative tone of the announcement.
A source close to the former couple told People magazine that there was no conflict behind the scenes. “There’s nothing ugly,” the source said. “It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalizing a few things.”
Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer had addressed rumors weeks earlier
Speculation about Schumer and Fischer’s relationship had circulated online in recent weeks.
On November 13, a source told People that the couple had been privately working through typical challenges that come with long-term marriages. “They’re privately working through normal issues that couples in long-term marriages have,” the source said.
Around the same time, Schumer appeared to respond to the rumors in an Instagram Stories post, sharing a photo of New York City while praising Hulu’s divorce-lawyer series ‘All’s Fair.’ She added the caption, “And Chris and I are still married.”
On November 11, Schumer removed all previous photos from her Instagram profile, including images of Fischer. She later addressed the move in a separate post, writing, “I actually left my house tonight. Who’s proud? I’m feeling good and happy. Deleted my old pics for no reason!”
The former couple were last seen together publicly in June 2025 at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the documentary ‘Room to Move,’ where they posed for photos on the red carpet.
Since marrying in 2018, Schumer has spoken openly about motherhood and marriage in interviews and stand-up, while Fischer has largely remained out of the public spotlight.
