Amy Schumer's difficult experience with Ozempic

Amy Schumer opened up on her struggles while speaking on 'The Howard Stern Show,' explaining that a genetic predisposition made her particularly sensitive to the drug’s side effects.

“I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy,” she shared.

“So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like, veteran. I was vomiting — and then you have no energy," Schumer recalled.

"But other people take it and they’re all good. God bless them,” the 'I Feel Pretty' actress added.

Amy Schumer opens up on losing weight but losing energy

While Ozempic did help Amy Schumer lose weight rapidly, it came at a cost. “I lost 30 pounds so quick and looked great,” she admitted.

However, the nausea and exhaustion were unbearable.

“I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow,” she recalled.

The comedian first disclosed her use of Ozempic in 2023 and she has since been vocal about the need for honesty regarding weight-loss drug usage.

Amy Schumer's call for transparency in Hollywood

Amy Schumer has criticized celebrities who hide their use of Ozempic or similar medications.

During an appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,' she urged the entertainment industry to be upfront.

“You are on Ozempic or one of those things, or you got work done. Just stop,” she said.

“Be real with the people. When I got lipo, I said, ‘I got lipo,’” she added.

Schumer emphasized how the medication affected her ability to be an active mother to her five-year-old son, Gene, whom she shares with her husband, Chris Fischer.

“I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son,” she recalled, according to Page Six.

“I was so skinny, and he’s throwing a ball at me, and [I couldn’t catch it],” she shared, highlighting how the side effects disrupted her daily life and parenting.

In recent years, numerous high-profile figures have admitted to using Ozempic or similar medications for weight loss, including Oprah Winfrey, Elon Musk, Macy Gray, and Sharon Osbourne.
