Andy Beshear presses Mitch McConnell to reveal undisclosed medical condition amid health concerns
WASHINGTON, DC: Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear has increased his demands for Sen Mitch McConnell to publicly share information about his health.
He believes elected officials should be open with the people they serve. The Democratic governor made this appeal again after weeks of speculation about McConnell's condition. He also noted his earlier requests for transparency about President Donald Trump's health.
Andy Beshear says public deserves transparency
In a post on X, Beshear connected his recent push for the lawmaker’s transparency to past national debates, writing, "I publicly and privately urged the last administration to address the public’s concerns with the former president’s health. I’m calling on Sen McConnell to do the same and provide voters an update on his own health."
I publicly and privately urged the last administration to address the public’s concerns with the former president’s health. I’m calling on Sen. McConnell to do the same and provide voters an update on his own health. Let’s end the crazy speculation. Just tell us what’s going on.

Beshear ended the post by urging McConnell to "end the crazy speculation" and "just tell us what's going on."
McConnell, 84, has remained hospitalized since June 14 after suffering an undisclosed medical emergency.
His office has repeatedly said that he is improving, recovering in the hospital and continuing to work with his staff on Senate and Kentucky matters, but it has not released details about the condition that led to his hospitalization.
The governor's public comments follow a formal letter he sent to McConnell on Wednesday requesting a full health update on behalf of constituents who are "increasingly concerned" about the senator’s wellbeing and "ability to hold office in the United States Senate."
Beshear argued public officeholders have a commitment to represent constituents with "clear communication about one's ability to serve."
Mitch McConnell's office sticks to previous statement
Beshear also said that providing an official update would help put an end to growing speculation online and allow McConnell to communicate directly with Kentuckians rather than allowing rumors to dominate the conversation.
McConnell has been absent from the Senate for three weeks and was first hospitalized in early June for an undisclosed condition.
McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing following the hospitalization, and her office claimed his condition "did not warrant an immediate return to the US"
Following Beshear's latest comments, McConnell's office reiterated the same statement it first released earlier this month, saying the senator continues to recover while remaining engaged with his responsibilities.
"As you can imagine, we have been receiving lots of messages from folks, and as the Senator continues to recover, we will be sure to keep you updated," a spokesperson said.
Q: So, have you spoken to Senator Mitch McConnell?

Trump: No.
Q: How's he doing?

The limited information has led to widespread speculation about McConnell's condition. This has prompted political leaders from both parties to call for more transparency.
Republican Senate leaders, including Majority Leader John Thune and Majority Whip John Barrasso, have stated that they spoke with McConnell by phone recently. They described him as engaged and discussing Senate business. However, no timeline has been given for his return to Washington.
However, when asked about McConnell’s condition aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said, "I have no idea how he's doing."
