Andy Cohen cringes over past interview question to Oprah Winfrey
Cohen asked the personal question, wondering if Winfrey had ever had a sexual encounter with a woman. The 'Color Purple' star, now 70, responded directly with a firm "No, I have not. Thank you."
Reflecting on the moment, Cohen admitted, "It meant so much to me that Oprah Winfrey did the show. It's gone brilliantly and I turn around and ask her if she's ever had sex with a woman. I mean, couldn't I leave it alone?"
Despite the awkward question, Cohen shared that Winfrey did not make him feel uncomfortable once the cameras stopped rolling. Later, he learned from Winfrey's best friend Gayle King that Oprah didn't fully grasp what he meant by "the lady pond."
"Gayle King told me later that week that Oprah didn't know what I meant by 'the lady pond,'" Cohen revealed. "I thought I explained it pretty well there, but listen, I was so grateful that Oprah did the show and I still am."
Despite this misstep, Cohen cherishes the episode with Winfrey, calling it his favorite episode of 'WWHL'. The interview with Entertainment Tonight was part of the celebration of the 15th anniversary of 'Watch What Happens Live' in June, highlighting both the highs and lows of Cohen's career.
