Oprah Winfrey felt 'too fat' to attend Don Johnson's party as she tears up reliving weight loss journey
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Oprah Winfrey revealed she skipped a star-studded Don Johnson's party because she felt "too fat" to attend.
For the unknown, Johnson is known for his role as Sonny Crockett in the 1980s TV cop series, 'Miami Vice,' which made him a huge success.
The media icon discussed her health journey during the first episode of 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show,' reflecting on moments when she felt constrained by public perceptions of her body weight.
Winfrey made headlines recently after being hospitalized for a stomach virus, coinciding with her scheduled appearance on 'CBS Mornings' to discuss her latest book club selection.
Oprah Winfrey says she endured 2 decades of tabloid stories about her weight
During the first episode, Winfrey became emotional and needed to grab a tissue. She recalled an episode from 1988 of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' when she brought out a wagon full of fat.
She remembered, “I didn’t have a morsel of food for five solid months in losing that weight on Optifast. Three days later, I was 5 pounds heavier and a week later, I was 10 pounds heavier. I’d gone from 145 on the day of the show and I think I was 157 in the course of like a week and a half or two, and the shame started again.”
Winfrey shared that she didn’t attend Don Johnson’s holiday party because she felt “too fat to go.” She recounted enduring two decades of tabloid stories about her weight.
She stated, “Making fun of my weight was national sport for 25 years. It was just accepted that you could make fun of me and my weight," as per ExtraTV.
After all these years, Winfrey has decided she is “done” with the shame she has carried. She emphasized, “I recently turned 70 and I’m not carrying it into the next decade.”
Currently, Winfrey uses an unspecified medication as a “maintenance tool” for her weight, saying, “I’ve given up on a number and I’m just going with how I feel. It’s a tool that I will use if I feel myself getting beyond a certain point.”
Oprah Winfrey's weight is a medical issue and not her fault
Additionally, Winfrey became emotional while discussing the importance of eliminating the shame associated with one's weight. Last year, Winfrey had a personal revelation about weight, expressing, “What I understand from the state of weight that I had not understood for the past 49 years of battling my weight is that there’s something in the brain that allows people like myself to metabolize fat differently than other people and that no matter what I do, I’m always going to go back to the set point that my brain thinks it needs to hold the weight."
During her 'State of Weight' episode on 'Oprah Daily,' she realized that weight is a medical issue and not her fault. She reflected, “It’s not even my fault all these years, all those diets, all those times, I tried… I’m climbing up the mountain, I’m suffering. I’m starving. It’s not my fault… That was the moment and that was 2023.”
