Gayle King celebrates son William Bumpus Jr’s wedding in 'magical backyard' party at pal Oprah Winfrey's house

In an Instagram post on June 5, 2024, King shared a glimpse of her son William Bumpus Jr's wedding ceremony through a carousel of ten photos. 

The collection included a picture of the bride in a strapless Amsale gown and the groom in a matching white suit jacket and slacks. The couple held hands in Oprah Winfrey’s garden, where the nuptials took place. Another heartwarming photo showed King hugging her son before the wedding ceremony. 

She also posted images of Bumpus Jr, 37, lovingly gazing at his bride from the altar beneath a rose flower arch. The bride's father, who officiated the ceremony, stood behind him, smiling and holding his script. 

Another photo showed the bride holding a white bouquet and walking down the aisle with her mother, Eva, as attendees captured the moment on their cameras, their faces filled with smiles and laughter.

In the sixth snap, King appeared in a blue one-shoulder Amsale dress, posing alongside her son and Winfrey, who wore a pale rose-colored gown. The remaining photos showcased the newlyweds' reception, including selfies with their wedding party and the couple feeding each other cake. 

The post concluded with romantic shots of the couple gazing lovingly at each other as sparklers lit up behind them. The final video featured the couple driving away in a mini golf cart adorned with a makeshift sign reading “We Married” along with trailing strings and cans.

Gayle King reveals moments and rehearsal videos of couple before the wedding ceremony

The CBS News anchor didn't just post photos of the wedding itself but also shared moments from the preparations. In a separate Instagram post, she shared a rehearsal video showing the bride and groom holding hands as they walked down a staircase toward the altar. 

King included several other fun rehearsal photos, including one of her, Bumpus Jr, and Elise posing together in the garden and a group shot with the wedding party. 

Oprah took an active role in the ceremony, as seen in a photo where she directed staff. King noted that her best friend was "weighing in" on the ceremony, adding, "Turns out she's a pretty good wedding planner!"

The festivities extended beyond the rehearsal, with King also sharing the setup for the welcome dinner at Rosewood Miramar Beach. The entrance was decorated with a multicolored rose flower arch, and the dining tables were adorned with multicolored flowers, blue silverware, and candles. 

The event was lively, as King posted a video of the bride and groom singing along to Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" with their wedding guests while musician Moses Lin played guitar. Another video showed the couple dancing to Earth, Wind & Fire's "September." 

She concluded her posts with the caption, "The night ended with an impromptu dance party in a room that didn’t have a dance floor! Black people always find a way—especially my family AND @moseslinmusic at the controls ! 💃🏽🕺🏽"
