LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Chicago Sky announced the dismissal of head coach Teresa Weatherspoon after just one season.

The Hall of Famer took the reins in October, becoming the eighth head coach in the team's history, but struggled to improve on the previous season's 18–22 record. Under Weatherspoon’s leadership, the Sky finished with a disappointing 13–27 record, marking the worst performance in the Eastern Conference, as reported by Fox News.

Following the news of Weatherspoon's firing, Angel Reese, a rising star and the new face of the franchise, took to social media to express her disappointment. In a heartfelt message, Reese stated she was "heartbroken" by the decision and credited Weatherspoon as the only coach who truly believed in her during her rookie year. "You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough," Reese wrote, adding, "I love you Tspoon."



 

Despite the team's struggles, Reese made a significant impact in her debut season, averaging 13.6 points and an impressive 13.1 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average is the highest in WNBA history, and she finished with the second-most total rebounds ever, trailing only MVP A'ja Wilson.

Teresa Weatherspoon's firing sparks outrage on social media

The recent firing of Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon has generated a wave of backlash on social media, particularly after Angel Reese expressed her heartbreak over the decision.
