Angelina Jolie accuses Brad Pitt of 'bleeding her dry' in legal battle which made her over $100M richer
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: According to recently filed court documents, Angelina Jolie alleged that Brad Pitt's lawsuit is an example of his "efforts to control and financially drain her."
Entitled 'the war of the roses,' Jolie has now charged her "controlling" ex-husband Pitt, 60, of "financially draining her," citing the protracted legal dispute over the vineyard that has plagued the pair since their divorce in 2016.
Angelina Jolie accused ex Brad Pitt of 'bleeding her dry'
In the newly filed court documents, the 'Salt' actress claimed, "It is extremely painful for Jolie to have to defend herself from Pitt's lawsuit – itself another example of Pitt's unrelenting efforts to control and financially drain her – especially because Pitt's false allegations as to the reasons the Miraval deal cratered can only proven by doing exactly what Jolie never wanted to do."
"Provide to the trier of fact the reason the Miraval deal failed, which was Pitt's demand for an NDA to cover up his history of physical and emotional abuse of Jolie and their family."
Pitt claimed that Jolie had broken their purchase agreement when, in 2021, she sold Chateau Miraval to Russian entrepreneur Yuri Shefler for 50 per cent of the company without getting approval from her ex-husband.
The couple paid $60 million in 2008 for their previous French residence—a magnificent 1,200-acre estate with a vineyard. However, Pitt's work and investments have made the company worth an incredible $164 million.
While Jolie, 48, appeared to be lamenting her lack of resources in her most recent court documents, Pitt's close sources point out that the 'Tomb Raider' star had enough money to sign a recent agreement to purchase 57 Great Jones Street, a unique Manhattan location that was previously rented for $60,000 per month.
Although Jolie tries to say that her ex Pitt is "bleeding her dry," Daily Mail revealed that her wealth has increased since their two-year marriage ended in divorce, which marked the end of their 10-year relationship.
According to a Daily Mail analysis, Jolie's relationship with Pitt has actually increased her wealth by almost $100 million, not decreased it.
Her sources of income include loans, child support, gifts, and the millions she made from the sale of Chateau Miraval, the property at the center of the legal issue, of which 10 percent was a gift from Pitt.
One person with knowledge of the matter claimed, "Angie says Brad is bleeding her dry – but it looks like she wants to bleed him dry."
The insider continued, "Far from being out to ruin his ex, it looks like Brad has bent over backwards to support Angie and help her out financially in spite of her appearing to be so vindictive."
Initially, Pitt wanted to purchase Jolie outright so that the Chateau Miraval vineyard would remain "in the family" if she chose to leave, but the agreement fell through in acrimony.
Brad Pitt has reportedly been kind to Angelina Jolie
Friends of Brad Pitt have come forward to defend the Oscar-winning actor of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,' arguing that he has been incredibly kind to Jolie throughout their interaction.
By 2018, Pitt had paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in various expenditures in addition to more than $1.3 million in child support, including the children's therapy.
Pitt is said to have paid roughly $10 million in child support for the previous seven years, during which he has reportedly been consistent in covering these costs.
Pitt acquired a 60 per cent share in the winery and estate when the pair purchased Miraval in 2008, while Jolie retained a 40 per cent share.
Pitt invested millions in the estate, capitalizing on the rose trend and growing the company to achieve a 300 per cent increase in sales. The estate they had paid an estimated $60 million for was soon more closely valued at $164 million.
According to previously filed court records, Jolie had "stopped investing" at the time of their wedding—a claim she has refuted.
However, in December 2013, Pitt gave her 10 per cent of his share as a wedding gift "for the sum of 1Euro [never paid]," ensuring that they were equal partners 50/50 by the time of their August 2014 marriage.
In addition to this generous donation, Pitt also presented his wife with a rare Winston Churchill painting titled 'Tower of Koutoubia Mosque,' which she sold for $11.5 million in March 2021.
Although the battle over the winery's sale continues, Pitt has recently won several court battles, most notably a significant ruling in Luxembourg that gave him back ownership of Chateau Miraval's renowned vineyard while more proceedings take place.
