Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt set for courtroom trial face off over Miraval estate dispute
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are likely to appear during a court trial over their French vineyard property in 2025.
Recently, a judge refused to squash Pitt’s lawsuit after Jolie passed a motion to dismiss her ex-husband’s complaint.
How did Miraval property dispute escalate to inevitable trial?
On November 8, Judge Lia Martin of the Los Angeles County Superior Court dismissed three motions filed by Angelina Jolie’s legal team that sought to throw out key claims Brad Pitt made regarding their agreement over the property, as reported by People.
The Chateau Miraval estate, famous for producing an award-winning beautiful rose, has been a thorn between the former couple for a long time now.
“It's already been ugly but it's going to get even uglier as Angie is bent on retaliating against Brad and will try to continue to settle more old personal scores," an insider told Daily Mail.
Pitt's attorney claims that Jolie has compromised the pair’s deal to not sell their respective stakes in Miraval without taking both parties' confidence.
An insider shared with the outlet, “This is a straightforward business dispute, but unfortunately, the other side has consistently introduced personal elements which have exposed the weaknesses in their case and complicated and lengthened the proceedings.”
Angelina Jolie sold her Miraval stake without informing Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt expressed surprise over Angelina Jolie selling her part of Miraval's stake in the property to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler without asking the ‘Moneyball’ actor as per the agreed terms.
The former couple, through their companies Mondo Bongo and Nouvel, had allegedly agreed in 2013 to offer each other the right of first refusal on any sale of their shares. Jolie’s team has 30 days to respond to this recent decision.
Pitt has won many key court battles against Jolie lately including the LA Superior Court rejecting the allegations that his suit was “frivolous, malicious, and part of a problematic pattern,” in March.
A source close to Pitt, 60, called the court’s ruling a “clear victory” for him, adding that the ruling “validates the strength of his claims.”
It is believed both Jolie and Pitt have already spent millions in court battles for the Miraval estate till now.
