Angelina Jolie was to receive 8-figure sum from Brad Pitt for her stake in winery before deal fell apart
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Court documents recently revealed the massive amount Brad Pitt's ex-wife Angelina Jolie was offered for her stake in their family winery, according to In Touch Weekly.
Pitt claimed that Jolie was offered a huge eight-figure sum to sell her interest in Chateau Miraval, per the documents obtained by the outlet.
Brad Pitt reveals how much Angelina Jolie was paid for her stake in Chateau Miraval
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie bought Miraval in 2008 hoping to turn the winery into a family business. Pitt said he spent a lot of time and money in forming a successful wine business. The former couple owned 50 percent each of Miraval. Jolie used her LLC, Nouvel, to buy her shares while Pitt used his LLC named Mondo Bongo to buy his interest, per the outlet.
After the couple split in 2016, Pitt said that Jolie discussed a buyout of her stake in Miraval after the divorce, with their "discussions progressing intermittently into January 2021."
The court documents revealed that Pitt and his team offered Jolie a $54.4 million offer, which was to be paid out over six years with an initial payment of $46 million and the remaining $8.5 million in installments.
However, Pitt claimed that after a few months, Jolie backed out of the negotiations, "feigning concern over the terms of a proposed non-disparagement agreement in connection with the deal."
Pitt's lawyer claimed, "This was the pretext. In reality. [Angelina] and Nouvel had covertly lined up and tentatively struck a deal with a third party: the Stoli Group, owned and controlled by Russian billionaire, Yuri Shefler, and its subsidiary Tenute del Mondo."
The lawyer further stated, "While negotiations with Brad were still ongoing, Terry Bird, as manager of Nouvel, executed a Confidentiality Agreement with Stoli which required Stoli to keep confidential even 'the fact that discussions and/or negotiations relating the proposed transaction are taking place'."
Pitt's motion revealed how much Angelina was paid for her stake. The lawyer mentioned, "On September 24, 2021, the Defendants consummated their tortious plan, with [Stoli] agreeing to purchase Nouvel (and thereby its interest in Miraval) from [Angelina] for $64 million."
Brad Pitt accuses Yuri Shefler and Stoli Group of trying a hostile takeover
Brad Pitt claimed in his suit that Angelina Jolie was supposed to get his approval of any sale to a third party. He also accused Yuri Shefler and Stoli Group of trying a hostile takeover of the business.
Meanwhile, Jolie disputed this claim and asked that the lawsuit must be thrown out. Nouvel went on to file a $350 million countersuit against Pitt and accused him of misusing Miraval’s assets for vanity projects. The 'Fight Club' actor denied the claims as the case is still ongoing.
In the lawsuit, the email that Jolie had sent Pitt on January 21, 2021, informing him she wanted out was submitted as evidence. The 'Tomb Raider' actress wrote in her message, "I have tried to stay open to the business, to see it as something that could be positive for our family, and have therefore not walked away."
She continued, "I had hoped somehow it could become something that held us together and we found light and peace. I see now how you really wanted me out and will most likely be pleased to receive this email."
She added, "In the past four years I have seen lots of inconsiderate behavior, money spent in ways that I would not have approved, and decisions made that I was not consulted on. I’ve been hurt by decisions that have been made that show no interest in sharing the business or changing it fundamentally into something that would be healthier for our children."
