LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has officially taken steps to drop her father’s surname, now opting to be known simply as Shiloh Jolie.

The teenager has completed the latest phase in California's name-change procedure by publishing a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times.

California law requires such announcements to be made in a newspaper for one month before a judge can approve the name change. This move follows Shiloh’s petition filed in May, coinciding with her 18th birthday.

Sources close to the family reveal that Brad Pitt is deeply affected by this decision. “He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” an insider told PEOPLE. “The reminders that he’s lost his children are, of course, not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”

Despite this, the source also noted that Pitt's current relationship with Ines de Ramon is progressing, though the separation from his children continues to cause him emotional pain. “He’s still happy with Ines, but the distance from his children pains him,” the source added.

Pitt and Jolie, who share six children—Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, and twins Knox and Vivienne—continue to navigate their post-divorce dynamics. According to recent updates, Pitt reportedly has limited contact with his adult children and reduced visitation with the younger ones due to his demanding filming schedule.

A separate source mentioned that while Jolie primarily has custody of the children, Pitt maintains visitation rights with his younger offspring. “He has virtually no contact with the adult kids,” the source said, “and his engagement with the younger kids has been more limited recently because of his filming commitments.”

Shiloh's decision to alter her last name marks a significant step in her transition into adulthood and reflects ongoing changes within the family.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s decision to drop 'Pitt' from her name sparks internet buzz

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s recent decision to drop “Pitt” from her surname has generated considerable discussion online, with reactions varying widely. The move, which is part of the 18-year-old’s legal name change process, has prompted a wave of commentary regarding the impact of her parents’ high-profile divorce and subsequent family dynamics.

One user wrote, "It’s almost like a Narcissistic mother is turning all of her kids against her ex-husband for malicious reasons," while another lamented, "This is what parental alienation does…how sad."

Others weighed in on the complexities of the situation. “I don't think it's parental alienation. I believe his behavior on that plane, throughout the divorce and other times had to have been so terrible his children want nothing to do with him, and it made him get sober. Totally their right but it is also brutal and somewhat sad,” commented one observer.

One user wrote, “You people will believe a violent man over his own children because he’s famous and used to be good looking.”

Amidst the debate, some users expressed sympathy for the entire family, with one writing, “So sorry for the entire family. It’s so unfortunate.”
