Angelina Jolie called 'vindictive' as her lawyers claim Brad Pitt's 'physical abuse' began before 2016
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In the ongoing legal battle between Hollywood heavyweights Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, new allegations of physical abuse have surfaced, with the actress' legal team claiming that her ex-husband's abusive behavior predates the infamous 2016 plane incident.
Angelina Jolie was physically abused by Brad Pitt before the 2016 plane incident that led her to divorce him, according to her lawyers.
Angelina Jolie accuses Brad Pitt of history of physical abuse in court documents
According to court documents obtained by People, Jolie's attorneys assert that Pitt, 60, had a history of physical abuse against Jolie, 48, that began before the highly publicized plane trip incident in September 2016.
The documents allege that Pitt's abusive behavior extended to their children during the flight, prompting Jolie to take immediate action and leave him.
"While Pitt's history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well. Jolie then immediately left him," her lawyers charged in the filing.
Pitt's representative declined to comment on the allegations, but another source familiar with the situation shut them down and turned the script on Jolie.
"This is a pattern of behavior whenever there is a decision that goes against the other side they consistently choose to introduce misleading, inaccurate and/or irrelevant information as a distraction," a friend of the Hollywood star told the outlet.
The source also added, "There was a lengthy custody trial that involved the entire history of their relationship and a judge who heard all the evidence still granted him 50/50 custody."
In February 2022, Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie, accusing her of unlawfully selling her shares of the winery to a Russian oligarch without his consent. Pitt argued that there was an alleged private understanding between them that neither party would sell their stakes without mutual agreement.
The latest court filing also addresses the ongoing dispute over the couple's French winery, Chateau Miraval. Jolie's legal team claims to possess communication that would support allegations that Pitt refused to allow her to sell her shares of the winery without agreeing to strict non-disclosure terms. However, they require court permission to make this communication public.
