Angelina Jolie gets candid about bond she shares with ex Jonny Lee Miller over 2 decades after divorce
SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA: Angelina Jolie is spilling the beans on her relationship with her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller, with whom she had split two decades ago.
The actress received the Maltin Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday, February 5. During a conversation, she talked about her career, where she also mentioned her former husband, as reported by People.
The ‘Maleficent’ star and Miller were married from 1996 to 1999.

While speaking with film critic Leonard Maltin, Angelina Jolie said, “I was just saying to somebody, it's really funny because I think you're starting with 'Hackers', right? Yeah, it's Jonny. I just talked to him. I love that — I get to see my ex-husband with 2,000 people.”
Her comment came as she and the audience were shown a clip from her movies, which included her 1995 film ‘Hackers’, one of her first, where she worked with Miller.
After the clip ended, the mother-of-six stated, “Amazing. It’s so nice to see it. Actually, it's funny, I don't really watch my own films, and so I [don't] think I've seen it since the premiere."
“But I do have a wonderful relationship with Jonny, and he and I have sons the same age and I'm so happy," she added.

After the ‘Trainspotting’ star and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, the former tied the knot with actress Michele Hicks and went on to welcome son Buster, who is reportedly close friends with Jolie's son Knox, now 16.
However, Miller’s second marriage also ended in divorce as he and Hicks split in 2016 and their divorce was finalized in 2018. Jolie went to marry Billy Bob Thornton in 2000. They divorced in 2003. Jolie then tied the knot with Brad Pitt in 2014 and after a long messy legal battle, their divorce was finalized in December 2024.
Meanwhile, this was not the first time Jolie spoke fondly of her former spouse, Miller.

In 2021, Angelina Jolie revealed to The Guardian how the ‘Elementary’ star helped her escape from disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.
The 49-year-old actress and filmmaker said, “It was beyond a pass, it was something I had to escape. I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys – don’t let girls go alone with him.”
“I was asked to do 'The Aviator', but I said no because he was involved. I never associated or worked with him again. It was hard for me when Brad did,” she added at the time.
In 2009, Pitt starred in Quentin Tarantino’s 'Inglourious Basterds', co-produced by the Weinstein Company.
In 2024, Miller also spoke about Weinstein and how he felt when Jolie told him about the producer.
He told The Independent, “My memory is a bit hazy, but I remember feeling fury. I actually wanted to be more proactive about it, but it was 100 per cent her decision and you have to swallow your male bulls***.”
