MIAMI, FLORIDA: Anna Kournikova, the former tennis star who retired in 2003 due to back injuries, made her first public appearance in nearly three years, and this time, she was seen using a wheelchair.

The 43-year-old was photographed while shopping in Miami’s Bal Harbour Shops, appearing in good spirits despite an undisclosed leg injury that has left her needing assistance to get around.

Anna Kournikova seen in wheelchair with family during rare public outing

Anna Kournikova, dressed casually in a black sweatsuit, was photographed with her two daughters, Lucy, 7, and Mary, 4, whom she shares with longtime partner Enrique Iglesias.

The family appeared to be enjoying a shopping outing, with the girls carrying a bouquet of pink and red flowers, seemingly eager to celebrate an early Valentine’s Day.

While it remains unclear how or when Kournikova sustained her injury, she was seen wearing an orthopedic boot on her right leg. She accessorized her look with minimal jewelry and black sunglasses, while keeping her blonde hair in a slicked-back bun, per New York Post.

Her daughters, who have largely been kept out of the public eye for the past three years, wore matching white tops with jeans and pink Ugg boots. The family outing marked a rare moment of public exposure for the private couple and their children.

Since her retirement from tennis, Kournikova has kept a low profile. Her relationship with Iglesias, which began in 2001 after she appeared in his 'Escape' music video, has remained largely private.

The couple welcomed their twins, Lucy and Nicholas, in December 2017, and their youngest daughter, Mary, in February 2020.

They were seen together celebrating Mother’s Day and Iglesias’ birthday on May 8, 2022. In the photo from the celebration, Kournikova was seen holding their twins on her lap while Iglesias held Mary on his shoulders.

“Happy Birthday to the most amazing Dad! We super love you!!! ❤️,” Kournikova had captioned the image.

Reflecting on their long-term relationship, he added, “You learn as you go. You have your good times, your bad times, and if you can get through the bad times, you’ll get to the really good times. A lot of people say, ‘Oh, well, I know this is the person I’m going to spend the rest of my life with.’ I do kind of agree with that, but at the same time, you really never know where life is going to take you and what can happen.”
