LONDON, ENGLAND: Anya Taylor-Joy has offered rare insight into her marriage to musician Malcolm McRae, revealing how their relationship has transformed her outlook on life and given her the confidence to embrace new risks through the security and happiness they share.
Her comments came during an interview with Elle UK published on Tuesday, July 28. The couple, who married in 2022, have kept much of their relationship private while occasionally sharing glimpses of their life together.

In the interview, Taylor-Joy spoke about her husband and expressed her love for him. “I don’t want to sound smug, but I love him so much,” she said.
She described having a best friend to go through life with as something that gave her a sense of security she never expected.
“It wasn’t something that was on my list,” Taylor-Joy continued, adding, “Now that I have it, I just feel emboldened to take more risks because I know I’ve got something really nutritive and solid and healthy and so fun.”
She added that she laughs “90% of the time” because of the happiness they share.
The 'Queen’s Gambit' star also revealed how the couple stays connected despite their busy schedules by checking in with each other every morning, though staying in touch can still sometimes be challenging.
“Malc’s got a dumb phone,” she shared, adding that she has also been offline for a while. She explained that stepping away from social media has had a positive impact on her mental health. “I do sometimes feel like I don’t know what’s going on, but I think it’s so nice to be fully present."
The duo began dating in 2021 after meeting at a music studio, with McRae being a member of the band More. The couple first eloped in New Orleans on April Fools’ Day in 2022 with an intimate courthouse wedding before Taylor-Joy traveled to Australia to film 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.'
The couple later celebrated their marriage with a second wedding ceremony in Venice in October 2023. The star-studded event was held at the historic Palazzo Pisani Moretta, a 15th-century palace on the Grand Canal.
Guests included Cara Delevingne, Julia Garner, Nicolas Hoult, Miles Teller, and his wife, Keleigh.

Taylor-Joy previously explained why the couple secretly married before their larger celebration. Speaking with Elle in May 2024, she said they were “real romantics” and that they were “completely and utterly in love.”
“We were born on the same day. And we wanted to make sure that our first experience was something that was completely for us. So we eloped in New Orleans with our two best friends and had the time of our lives,” she shared.
Taylor-Joy described the secret ceremony as magical, adding that their second wedding experience with their families was “so beyond beautiful” and made her feel “very, very lucky.”
In April, the couple marked their fourth wedding anniversary. McRae celebrated the occasion with a sweet Instagram tribute to his wife, writing, “Four years married. I’m trying to return to you more love than you’re able to give out. But it’s hard because you’re better than me at *almost everything. I dominate in thumb wars.”
He also shared photos and a video featuring moments with Taylor-Joy, including the couple holding hands beside what appeared to be a Doberman puppy, a clip of him kissing her while traveling through a cave by boat, and a casual photo of them trying on different hats.
