'Meant to be': Fans wish Anya Taylor-Joy and husband Malcolm McRae as they celebrate joint birthday

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anya Taylor Joy and Malcolm McRae have so many things in common, their birth dates being one of them. The power couple celebrated their joint birthdays on Tuesday, April 16, with each sharing posts on social media to mark the special occasion.

"🍾Happy birthday to us 🍾," the 28-year-old captioned an Instagram slideshow alongside a snap of her kissing her husband, who celebrated his 30th birthday, People reports.

'The Queen's Gambit' star shared a video of the pair celebrating at Break Bar in New York City, where patrons can smash their glasses after drinks. 

"Big HBD to @anyataylorjoy and @malcolmmcrae 🎉🎈so happy we could assist in the #celebration #fun @ #thebreakbar 🥳," read the caption alongside a photo of the couple at the Manhattan locale.

McRae shared clips of his own to his Instagram Stories retailing their festivities, which included his wife breaking glass and expertly shooting some hoops at a basketball arcade game. "Happy birthday beautiful girl," he captioned a mirror selfie of the two embracing. "Most generous, caring, thoughtful person I've ever met. I love you."

McRae and Taylor-Joy made one of their first public appearances as a couple in March 2022, when they stepped out together at the CAA pre-Oscar party in West Hollywood, California.

The next month, the actress caused a stir when she kissed the musician at the premiere of her movie 'The Northman'. The couple hit the carpet again for the 2023 Golden Globes.

"I've finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading," she told British Vogue of McRae in April 2022. "We're basically 80 years old and 7 at the same time, and it works really well."

Taylor-Joy and McRae tied the knot in a private wedding in New Orleans on April 1, 2022. The duo wed again roughly a year and a half later in Venice, Italy. 

Earlier this month, Taylor-Joy told Entertainment Tonight that she and McRae “did [their] research” before successfully marrying each other in private — and keeping it a secret for two years, joking, “We were pretty spy-orientated.”

"At the end of the day, it was about the two of us and so we ran away with our two best friends and had the most magical day possible," the actress continued. “It kind of made it all the more special, ‘cause it just felt like a secret that we got to keep to ourselves.”
