Ariana Grande performs parody of ‘Espresso’ on ‘SNL’ and Sabrina Carpenter likes it but fans not so much
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In the 'Saturday Night Live' episode on October 12, the artist known for hits like 'Eternal Sunshine' portrayed a tone-deaf maid of honor in the 'Bridesmaid Speech' sketch, which included a parody of Sabrina Carpenter's popular song 'Espresso'.
The following day, Carpenter acknowledged the spoof by reposting the song on her Instagram Stories, tipping her hat to Ariana Grande's rendition.
Sabrina Carpenter praises Ariana Grande’s ‘SNL’ parody performance
“Very nice and on pitch,” the singer of 'Please Please Please' penned in a note, tagging all the bridesmaids involved in the parody performance. Upon resharing Sabrina Carpenter's story on her Instagram, Ariana Grande commented, "Tysm, we tried."
In the spoof, the bridesmaid revealed the events of their bachelorette trip, where the bride (Chloe Fineman) had an encounter with another man, as per Jang.
“So, instead of a speech, we're gonna do something different for y'all, 'cause we're a little bit creative and a little bit quirky," Heidi Gardner's character addressed the audience as the group approached the microphone.
What amused the audience the most were Ariana Grande's intentional flat notes and lackluster performance, portraying her as an untrained and novice singer.
In addition to Sabrina Carpenter's song parody, Ariana Grande also impressed the audience with her spot-on impressions of Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Gwen Stefani, and Celine Dion.
